I just came back from living in Germany for almost 12 years.  The sales tax there is 19% and other taxes are in the same range.  Income taxes, including health insurance, are a minimum of 34% of gross income.  Keep dreaming about "free" health care because nothing is ever free, the US government will be taking that out of your pay too.
That's exactly right. that is why I protested against Obamacare from the start. It is just a backhanded way of implementing national health care. First they say everybody has to have health insurance, knowing full well that people who make too much for Medicaid and don't get it through work, can't afford it on their own. Then the government will make another healthcare program for people who don't qualify for Medicaid. It will be so much "cheaper" than private health insurance that everyone will jump for that. Pretty soon, they will raise taxes to pay for one government health care program for everybody, which won't be free for anybody because we'll all be paying extra taxes.

The Sales tax here in California is close to 8%. The cost of living here is through the roof. Housing, food, utilities, etc., rises daily. Government in Washington doesn't have a corner on stupid spending decisions. California just passed the "Dream Act". This gives illegal aliens access to money for college without having to be a citizen. This is just crazy to me. Not only do rightful American college bound students have to face higher tuition costs, but they have to compete with illegal aliens for the now scarce grants and money appropriated for extended education.

Don't get me started on the fact that the Obama Administration is going on record to sue the State of Alabama for passing and enforcing their own immigration laws. Since when can't a state make their own laws to protect themselves from the threat and squatting of illegal aliens? If you want to come to this country, do it legally!!!
I agree with you 100%.  It seem the government doesn't get the meaning of "illegal." Maybe next they can sue the states for imprisoning bank robbers.
BTW, the sales tax in our county in New York state is 8.25 percent, but it varies from county to county. The next county over is 9.25 (unless it went up again!)

I live in Oregon and we don't have any sales tax. I wished we did because our property tax was is way to high and It would help our state.

Almost 10% here in Tennessee! UGH! It is painful to go shop a lot or buying big purchases. It adds up. Tax free weekend was here last weekend and it was wild I'm telling you!

Varies by county in Florida ... it's 6.5% where I am at ... drive two streets over into the next county and it's 7% drive a few miles down to the next county and it's 6%
Not really sure how the sales tax is set or whom sets it, but does seem to be different.

I live in michigan and sales tax is 6% on non-food items. This is okay with me since I purchase all of my non-food items on the internet where there is no sales tax.
