"History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help. But like dandruff, most people do have a religion and spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from fiddling with it."
~ Robert Heinlein

"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

~ Proverbs 4:23 ~

We need to dwell on wisdom and the Word.  This helps us with the issues of life that come daily.  Our lives are affected by our actions, thoughts, and behaviors.  We want to think on the good things and the good thoughts, and through that, help to edify others, ourselves, and God.  :)

... help to edify ... God.

Why would anyone want to "edify" some hypothetical entity which lacks any substaantive evidence of existing, unless they were blinded by faith and tapping around in the darkness of irrational religious belief?

For a Christian, why not?  There's great joy in doing so, including answered prayers, surprising things that happen to show we're on the right track, inward confidence and contentment, and much more.  :)

Why would anyone want to "edify" some hypothetical entity which lacks any substantive evidence of existing, unless they were blinded by faith and tapping around in the darkness of irrational religious belief?

For a Christian, why not?

Nominally, being self-deluded by blind religious faith is considered to be detrimental to rational people - not so for irrational religious adherents?

Whichever perspective you wish to see it as is up to you.  Naturally we are on opposite ends of the beam.
