The Tracks by Elizabeth Coatsworth

Something called me -
I knew that the road
Had felt tihs morning
Other feet;
And there they were
In the softened earth,
The prints of deer,
Pointed and neat.

One deer and the other,
Side by side,
Had stepped from the grass
White with hoarfrost;
Had passed like life
Across my path,
And agian in the grass
Were forever lost.

But under the oak leaves,
Searching with care,
I found the smaller
Track of the fawn,
And knew that the three
Had waited there,
Staring across our fields
At dawn.

The Wilderness Is Tamed by Elizabeth Coatsworth

The ax has cut the forest down,
The laboring ox has smoothed all clear,
Apples now grow where pine trees stood,
And slow cows graze instead of deer.

Where Indian fires once raised their smoke
The chimneys of a farmhouse stand,
And cocks crow barnyard challenges
To dawns that once saw savage land.

The ax, the plow, the binding wall,
By these the wilderness is tamed,
By these the white man's will is wrought,
The rivers bridged, the new towns named.

I've been writing poetry since I was about 8 or 9. I used to sell my poems to family and friends for a $1. As an adult, I entered some poetry contests but found myself writing poems less. I got to be inspired to write but find my time consumed so much by work.

the past is the past
and im leavin it dead last
but i can never seem to escape it
but my past is the fact of it
and the facts are me
the facts are my reality
and i use them to make my dreams
and make it all seem
hyped up and sped up
like caffeine
my thoughts are incomplete
cuz the future is obsecene
it is unknown but right now is where the start is
and if your reading this pause for some minutes
and think about your own life
think about your own strife
the battle goin on inside your head
like a civil war
bustin caps like a warhead
but you gotta learn to live in the moment
just freeze it and own it
pwn it
make it all yours,
lets get on it
no more tears shed
they will prove nothin but the blood that WAS bled
no more sad nights
they arent gonna bring back the best nights
but each tear
all the pain
thats no gain
but it makes us who we are
and all we can do is accept it
embrace it
lets face it
our past is us
but its already happended
thus
its Behind Me

by me :) look me up Nicolas Velasquez, or Ghost of Jealousy

Whoopee Ti Yi Yo by Unknown Author

As I was a-walking one morning for pleasure,
   I spied a cowpuncher all riding alone;
His hat was throwed back and his spurs was a-jinglin',
   As he approached me a-singin' this song:

     Whoopee ti yi yo, git along little dogies;
         It's your misfortune, and none of my own.
     Whoopee ti yi yo, git along, little dogies,
         For you know Wyoming will be your new home.

Early in the spring we round up the dogies,
   Mark and brand and bob off their tails;
Round up our horses, load up the chuck wagon,
   Then throw the dogies upon the old trail.

It's whooping and yelling and driving the dogies;
   Oh, how I wish you would go on!
It's whooping and punching and go on, little dogies,
   For you know Wyoming will be your new home.

Geography by Eleanor Farjeon

Islands and peninsulas, continents and capes,
Dromedaries, cassowaries, elephants and apes,
Rivers, lakes, and waterfalls, whirlpools and the
   sea,
Valley beds and mountaintops - are all geography!

The capitals of Europe with so many curious names,
The north pole and the south pole and Vesuvius
   in flames,
Rice fields, ice fields, cotton fields, fields of maize
   and tea,
The equator and the hemispheres - are all geog-
   raphy!

The very streets I live in, and the meadows where
   I play,
Are just as much geography as countries far away,
Where yellow girls and coffee boys are learning
   about me,
The little white-skinned stranger who is in geog-
   raphy!
