Poor eating habits and lack of exercise...sometimes it is due to genetics but think that is used as an excuse too often.

too many video games and not enough time outside.  My parents used to lock the door and make me go outside and play, couldn't come inside till I had been outside for several hours.

I think more children are overweight because of to many tecnology items they have all the games systems, tv, computers and internet. Another problem is the cost of the right kinds of foods make it harder for parents to purchase more fruits than snack foods.  I think it is a combenation of things rather than just one thing.  It also depends on how the children see their parents eat as well.  I honestlly feel that there are to many fastfood restraunts but I have notices they changeing the menu to suit those who want to eat out and still have good foods.

It's not just the children in america that are so over weight, it's also many adults...and pets.  Too many eating food of poor quality and not excercising enough.

Sitting around on the computer and playing game systems.  Add that to the portion sizes we eat and its a terrible combination.  My two youngest daughters sit and surf the internet and text on the cell phones as long as I let them then I have to crack on them about the time spent doing those activities.

Children are overweight because of eating too much, not because of television, computers and video games.

Dittos! ;) I will add though the lack of excercise while using all the technology doesn't help.

Parents, too much eating, too much junk food, not enough exercise, too much technology.

If the child is too young to drive they of course are only able to eat what is brought into the house.

What about the junk food that passes as school lunches?

I feel more children are overweight because they are less active. Schools are cutting back on physical education and recess time. when the kids get home, they are more focused on video games and getting on the computer than spending time outside. i know when i was young you couldn't keep us in the house

There are going to be ways of course the child can get junk food but what are the chances of the kid being over weight b/c of junk food given to the child once a day vs the child having access to it at school AND at home? From what I know kids at school will trade their snacks with other kids. If the overweight child buys lunch or packs a healthy lunch there's not much there the other kids will want to trade for. The child has no choice but to eat it. It's called tough love.

Some children get two meals a day at school now, both lunch and breakfast.

That is true, even if that was the case I don't see the child trading or taking 2 unhealthy snacks a day from other kids not being able to receive something equal in return. I just can't see kids tradies chips for carrots or cookies for celery.  ???
