Does anyone have a deaf animal?
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:59:03 pm »
I do, I have a dog that is deaf, plus I have a couple of other dog's that aren't. They take alot of loving, which are's get's, alot of patience, special training, and learning sign laungage. They are very special animal's and a lot of people will just give them up to caring for them. Their's some breed's that if they are born deaf they have them put to sleep, which I think is curel.

I never had a deaf pet but I did have a regular grooming client with a deaf golden retriever that knew sign language.  I never really thought about what happened to deaf pets & the whole putting them to sleep thing...it does seem really cruel, pets are smart and with enough love & attention from an intelligent pet parent, I would think any breed could learn to adapt extremely well.

I wouldn't mind having a deaf pet.  Something about animals with one blue eye and one different color eye are usually deaf.  Not sure if that is true or not.  Glad that there are people like yourself that are willing to take in animals with special needs.

I saved one that was deaf, well my brother saved him, I took him in. The puppy was a purebred pitbull and they were gonna take him out and shoot him because he wasn't perfect because he was deaf... sad thing is that he wasn't all the way deaf either and he is such a cutie!!

LOL! I've had pets like that too. Kids/teens can be the same way, adults too.
One of my dogs I think may be suffering from a bit of hearing loss. I think she's had some kind of infection or damage that causes her to not hear quite as well. She still hears pretty good, just not quite as good as my other pup.
