Children and movies
« on: June 16, 2011, 06:30:39 am »
When can you start to take children to a movie theater?  I have a 3 year old that does not seem quite ready...but really enjoys movies and really wants to go to a theater.

The first time I took my little one, I told him he had to sit and watch the movie (we can't leave in the middle).  We went to the bathroom first, got snacks and drinks, and he did fine.  As long as it is a kids movie and you are prepared to leave if needed, he will be fine.

I think that it depends on the individual child and what movie you are going to (what audience will be watching the movie).  A movie like "Barney" will have lots of other children who's age groups will match your childs and the movie will captivate his/her attention.  If I recall the attention span of a three year old isn't very long so the movie should probably be shorter in length.  If there are going to be older children and adults at the movie "like Thor" I would probably avoid taking my three year old as they can be somewhat disruptive to other people trying to enjoy the movie.

I also think that it depends on the child. I took my son to his first movie when he was three. We got popcorn and drinks. He was fine during the movie. He suprised me. He didn't even need to go to the restroom, during the movie. We did go as soon as it was over.  ;D He really enjoyed it. So did I.
