I am a member of MPB Today, as well.
This is not for the average Joe because you have to make an investment upfront.

I am doing whatever I can to lower the cost of groceries:
I am looking for coupons I can use for my weekly shopping.
I buy more generic brands.
I watch for store sales.

Every little bit counts in today's economy.

I look for deals and coupons wherever I go, and I use a lot more generic brands. I'm not exactly an expert at the whole couponing thing, but you can definitely save some cash if you use them and keep an eye out for deals.

The price of food these days is completely insane. Then again, the price of anything these days is insane. It's such a shame how bad of a turn the economy has taken. Prices not only continue to rise, but then portions get smaller & smaller.

With the rising prices coupons still help a lot but but it doesn't quite help enough because there are fewer of them.
I haven't done it yet but I heard or read it somewhere that if you call or contact companies whoose products you purchase they may send you free coupons or tell you where to find more coupons.
It's times like these that I also wish I was more of a gardener and had more room for a garden because it's probably cheaper and healthier in the long run for you to grow your the food you really like . For me that would be lettuce and  cherry tomatoes

I compare my store sales with my coupons and try to buy accordingly.  It saves me a lot.

Don't just assume because you are shopping at Wal-mart you are getting a good price.
Be sure to take note of prices and compare.  I have found some things are much cheaper at my local dollar store than at Wal-mart.

You have to really plan out your trip and use the flyers for sales. Buy produce when it's on sale, that saves a lot, one week to another the price could go from $.99 to 3.99 a pound. Canned foods last a long time so you should buy them when they have a sale as well. Frozen fruit and veggies is a good option and sometimes better than fresh. Use coupons anytime you can and try to make a list and stick to it so you don't spend money on things you don't need. Sometimes buying into a wholesale club can save you some money in the long run and I always shop at big retailers like Walmart or Target for certain things because the pricing is always lower than the supermarkets

What I have noticed is that we are getting a smaller portion for the same price.  Dial soap has a curve under it where they have made less soap.
