Bullying in Schools

There's been a sad number of bullying issues in today's schools. How do you think the schools should respond to this? Personally, I believe that the parents should be responsible. If a child bullies another, the parents should be contacted right away, and an immediate punishment should be issued. If the problem persists, the parents should be held responsible for any resulting actions. On the other hand, I also feel that kids are kids, and by nature, they can be mean. A parent can tell their child not to bully til they are blue in the face, but in school, mommy or daddy aren't looking, and saying something nasty to that kid who sits next to you might just make you look cool. So then do we focus on the child? Send him to therapy or something? It's such a disturbing issue, but it makes me worry about when I have kids, if the issue comes up, how it will be dealt with. What are your ideas on school bullying?  :-

Unfortunately, school bullies usually grow up to be adult bullies, who never matured. However, by then, everybody pretty much has their number and ignore their rants.

Ever since there have been school systems, there have been cliches, bullies, etc. If kids could just realize that their school years are so fleeting and time is a great equalizer of the masses. Most bullies pick on someone who seems weaker than they are and they have no fear of backlash from verbally abusing them. They usually have a few weak minded lackey's that follow them around to lend credence to their false power that they like to display.

The parents are responsible and should be held so. The schools are so lax about discipline in the schools today because of the protection laws for children. It makes for a weak system to address these kinds of issues. Then everybody is shocked and angry when it happens. Parents need more of a "hands on" approach with their children. Sadly, in this day and age, it's a rarity. A lot of kids need discipline really bad, but don't get it.
