How to make friends when you are disabled and stuck at home?
« on: April 30, 2011, 02:57:38 pm »
Being by myself 24/7 for the past 2 years is really affecting me mentally.  I read a few things on what happens to prisoners after only 30 days in solitary confinement.  And it's very true.  And it's been 2 years for me.  I have no one.  I even started randomly asking people to be friends on my facebook just so I felt like I had friends, so pathetic.

I mean, I can't really go anywhere.  I can't drive.  It's very hard to get out and meet people.  Plus back in high school I never had any friends, so I doubt anyone would like me anyway.

What about forums like this?  Does anyone know how I could maybe find friends who really like me, and will actually care about what I go through, and me doing the same for them?

I'm just so sad.  For the first time in my life I woke up crying.  I was dreaming of about 50 people just laughing at me in a room for hours.

I'm just ranting, I don't want people to feel sorry for me.  I just need to let things out I guess.

Hi Willc.  I'm willing to be a friend and email buddy.  I know it's tough when you are lonely.  Been there too.  Do you have a hard time getting out in the community to do fun things?  Are you in the city or what is your living situation?

Thanks man, I appreciate that :)  Do you have a facebook too?  A lot of times I play online poker on facebook and have a few people on there that I talk to occasionally.

Im really sorry to hear that. Maybe you can chat people on omegle.com. Its a website where you can chat with strangers. Even thought you cant meet them, you can still have a good conversation with them and after chatting for a while, maybe you can ask for their facebook and add them :) There are weird people there but there are ALOT of people that wants to chat for fun :)

I'm stuck at home and not able to get out.  After an accident a few years ago I'm not able to drive or walk (very well at least).  Plus being alone and feeling like my life has ended has made my mind worse.  Sitting in a bedroom for 2 years with no friends will mess your mind up.  I always had friends in high school and I lived with 3 other guys in college so I'm not used to being alone and having no one to talk to.  You really start to feel like you are just a bad person and no one likes you anyway.  I mean, I don't want friends who just feel sorry for me.  I just don't even know how to make friends anymore.  Maybe one day by some miracle I will get married, or get a friend close by who can drive.  I went to the grocery store about a month ago with someone.  But it just was so much trouble it's much easier to make a list.  I mean, I could go to a movie or out to eat.  But I'm also kind of out in the country, so there aren't really any places to go anyway.  Thanks for the response guys.

Hello,

This is just an idea but a friend of mine met a few guys online playing texas holdem. They all lived close so now every Thursday night he has them all come over to play. Each person brings something. Like my friend will order pizza, another guy brings beer, another guy brings chips and so on. They are all really good friends now.

That's cool.  I have plenty of room too.  I just moved here about a month ago.  It's just hard to meet people when you can't get out and you are in a new place.  If someone picked me up, I could go and play too.  That's something I would love, once or twice a month just hanging out with some friends playing poker or watching a sports game.  It's so lonely doing all that alone.

Oh, and if anyone doesn't have facebook and want's to ever send me a note, here is my email: wmc1982@gmail.com

That and facebook is all I have.  I have never had any of the other messaging services.

Yea you should definetly look in your local newspaper then. Around here there are a bunch of places that have weekly texas holdem tournaments and i dont know if you play euchre but they have them too. The place we play at have people who are disabled and they have a van just go get them. Its pretty easy. I bet you would really enjoy yourself.

No, I'm not on Facebook. Just drop me a line though, seriously, we can have a chat and see if we hit it off. I met my wife and most of my very best friends now online. The internet affords us a ton of possibilities that a pen pal, or even a change in scenery, never could and I have taken advantage! Your reaching out like this is the answer to your question. I may not be it, but you have friends out there.

Thats a good optimistic way of looking at things.  It's just so different from when I was back in school, being around thousands of people I just found friends without trying sometimes.  Now I'm in a new town kind of in the country, but only 10 minutes from a big city.  But I can't drive so that really makes it hard.  And even if I could, would I just go to the mall and just talk to random people? :)

I'm on FB.  I've made a couple of friends in here and we've since connected on FB and Twitter.  Some of the people I play games with on FB have fibro, disabilites, cancer, etc.  They enjoy escaping from their pain and/or loneliness by interacting with people on these games that can relate or just take the time to play the games.  I'll go and look you up on there!  FC has a lot of really fine people on here, as you can see just in your thread here!!!    :)
