I believe that foreign cars are put together better and, as such, do not need maintenance as much/frequently. My experience has been that they last a minimum of 250,000 miles and have a higher resale value.  Insurance costs are less with a well built car and I have never had problems getting parts for any foreign car unless it was over 20 years old and, if, an american built car made it that long you would have the same problem.

I believe it is the Make and Model, on average I believe foreign cars have better Gas milage and do last longer but, american trucks can't be beat (bar none). I had a toyota corolla 2003 which I recently traded in for a 2009 Camry. The car had 125,000 miles and I still received 4,000 in trade in for it. I only paid 12,500 for it in 2004. My last two cars have been Toyota's and I love them. Now if I was to get a truck, it would be either a Chevy or Dodge. You can't beat up the American trucks. That is why you see trucks on the road from the 80's and 90's still.

American cars are not all made in America either.  I've had both and it depends on how well you take care of them.  American cars are just as good as foreign cars and vice versa.  The next car I get will be a Hyundai because I like the style and it has good reviews.  My mother had a Hyundai and it was a good car with no problems.  There aren't any American cars right now that I like style wise if there was I would get one.

Foreign vehicles are better made and last longer than most American vehicles, but not better than Ford. Fords are the best.
Vehicles are one category that I don't mind seeing foreign made in this country, because I totally hate the unions that control American vehicle manufacturing. They get paid way too much money and benefits for the amount of work that they actually do, and that is what makes the price of cars and trucks so high that it is almost impossible to afford a brand new or even slightly used vehicle.

Foreign cars... american just don't have that same quality. And as dreamyxo stated, american cars can be made in mexico or canda with domestic parts and still be considered american haha

I prefer american cars over foreign cars but I do believe that foreign cars are better. The reason I would rather have an american car is that I am from the good  Ole US of A

I'd have to say foreign cars - those companies didn't need a bailout recently just to survive, and on top of that, the acronym for Ford says it all - "Fix or repair daily!"

My Ford has over 150,000 miles on it and I have had to do very few repairs with one exception.  At about 120,000 miles the engine blew so that was a major expense but otherwise it runs very well.  I do have regular oil changes, tire rotations and check-ups on it which seems to keep it in good shape.  Knock on wood!!!

Foreign cars are way better. American cars suck in mileage and are more likely to have maintance problems.
