Do you think more stars should take a stand against pornography?

I see on the pages today that David Scwimmer is taking a stand against all the bad stuff available for kids out there, looking up at billboards is like nothing new for kids to get a glimpse of a little more than they need to be consentrating on at a young age, needless to say a kid can hop on the internet and get live action pornography any time, and if you block it, whats to say billy or bobby joe isn't over at his good friend tom's house, whose mother doesn't have it blocked? This is an outrage and no one seems to say anything about it, sites like this should have something where at least enter a age and personal info, or something to verify they are old enough, personally they shouldn't be allowed, but of course free speech, free trash. Do you think more people should do something, and what can we do as parents, people that are tired of putting up with it?

Do you think the so called stars are Gods or something?  They are just people who make more money and are just as scummy as everyday people.  I do agree something should be done about all the pornography but stars are definitely not people I would think of as being great role models.  They don't impress me.

I think there is way to much softcore out there. To me most of these main stream magazines are almost like looking at a Playboy and Playboy is just as much of a lie as all the rest of the softcore out there.  Cinemax and all those after hours movies should me banned also cause they insult my intelligence. As far as Hardcore goes, I think kids should be encouraged to watch the real act even if it is scripted. I think they should know where they came from and why they have certain feelings. The other thing is hard *bleep* is the only entertainment that DOES NOT JUDGE. Sounds like a world I like to live in. Maybe you should ask your kids feelings about this whole thing instead of making the decision for them. The bottom line is I am sick and tired of living in a world where everything is sugar coated just so a bunch of people can make money and a bunch of parents can have the illusion of feeling safe.

I don't think stars really care about the availability of pornography unless it is affecting their families directly. Stars are no different than regular people as far as their concerns. I think because stars seem to influence the younger generation, then something said by them against pornography might change the attitudes of those considering watching it but not those who make the films.

Being in a democracy, it's usually a matter of majority rules. That said, I'll respond to your last question: "Do you think more people should do something, and what can we do as parents, people that are tired of putting up with it?"

If a person were to stand in front of you, and open a trench coat, and start fondling himself, have you just been exposed to nudity, to pornography, or whatever? How would you go about stopping a person from doing something like this on a spur of the moment situation? Granted, the person perpetrating such an action has an intention in mind, but the person caught in a situation to have to view such a thing didn't have an intention of being outside to see it. Follow?

The same can be said for billboards, or watching TV. Boy, TV, that's a hard apple to fight. Look at "Big Brother" as an example. Every Thursday night, you hear CBS sponsor July Chen promote Showtime 2 After Dark. And the show itself has activities for the participants whereby the women parade around in bikinis, and the men where bulge-tightening spandex. And this is considered "family-TV". First you watch it, then you're invited to watch even more "uncensored" TV.

I'm not the type of person to say, "if you can't beat em, join em". The battle isn't impossible to win. It's just a much huger monster to beat these days. Even our own constitution guarantees us the Freedom of Speech, and the Supreme Court has declared pornography in all it's glory to be an expression of that freedom. What do we do?

We teach our kids, and that's about it. Where do you want your kids values to be? Where do you want them to be grounded in terms of their values? Once you've done your part, then it becomes a matter of your kids choosing - yes, they have a choice - where they wish to exercise their voice. If we as parents have done our part to teach them, we cannot be responsible for the actions they take thereafter.

To change things on a grander scale? Simple. Get involved - like David Scwimmer. Sometimes, just speaking up is enough to start a snowball effect. In this case, it's gonna take a LOT OF VOICES - be it stars, or whoever - to get a snowball effect started. This topic is just one small part of it. So congrats, you've done your part in getting the topic rolling.
