Yes. The cab driver isn't going to let you ride for free! LOL

I don't think cab drivers really look for hitchhikers (since they get paid for driving people).

Yes..... but whose "assumptions" are going to be RIGHT....??? I make an assumption that he's merely "picking up a hitcher".... and he assumes im a "paying" customer.... which one of us should be LIABLE.....??? lol!!!

Holding up your thumb in this situation is for getting the attention of the cab driver. You could of chosen to do a wave, or just hold out your arm, but instead, you chose to use your thumb.

That's probably the ASSUMPTION the driver will make.... shouldn't he first VERIFY if im an actual potential "fare" or a hitchhiker...??? By using my thumb instead of a mere wave of the hand... doesn't my CONDUCT suggest that I am hitchhiker...???

When you get in the cab, the cab driver is going to have some sort of conversation with you, I'm guessing... where you want to be dropped off and the like. If you say anything that makes him think you're expecting a free ride, he'll pull over and let you out (example: "Thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate the kindness of strangers", "Thank goodness you're giving me a ride. I'm broke and can't stick around this po-dunk town another day!", etc).

So no, he is not "liable" for his assumption that you're paying. The sign on the outside of the cab states the fares. The cab driver doesn't have to restate them to get money from you. LOL

Everyone knows a cab charges for "rides". I wouldn't try this stunt or you could land up with a citation or in court. Hitchhiking is illegal where I live, but it's very seldom inforced.
