How We Can Put A Stop to High Gas Prices
« on: March 12, 2011, 04:49:07 am »
Please read this entire idea PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...

Dropping Gas Prices:

This is not the “Don’t Buy Gas for a Day”, but it will show you how we can get gas prices back down to $2.00 per gallon.

If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the “don’t buy gas on a certain day” campaign that was going around a couple of years ago.

It’s worth the consideration. Join the resistance!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $5.00 a gallon by Memorial Day, and it might go higher!! Want gas prices to come down?

We need to make some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they know we wouldn’t continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them, BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you’ve probably thinking gasoline priced at $2.00 is super cheap. Me too!

It is currently $3.59 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations has conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not the sellers.

With the prices of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the prices of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can’t just stop buying gas, But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here’s the idea! For the rest of this year, DON’T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest (Which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It’s really simple to do! Now don’t wimp out on me at this point…..Keep reading on and I’ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

This note was sent to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least 10 more (30x10=300) and those 300 send it to at least 10 more (300x10=3000) and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to 10 friends each then 30 million people will have been contacted.

If it goes one more level further, you guessed it – THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people, that’s all!

If you don’t understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people … Well, let’s face it, you just aren’t a mathematician. But I am. So trust me on this one.

How long will this take? If each of us send this to 10 more people within one day of receipt, all 300 Million people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I’ll bet you didn’t think you and I had that much potential, did you!

Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, PLEASE pass this message on, I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2-00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Keep it going!!!

P.S. Please keep this concept in mind, to keep gas prices from going up in the future.

Conclusion: Oil companies have cross the line, understand this; We' er not saying don't buy gas period, you need gas to back and forth to work or to take of your daily routine - what we' er saying don't buy "EXXON and MOBIL". Lets make the Oil Companies feel the pain for a change! There's no website to go to -  just pass this information on to your family members, co-workers, neighbors and friends. Let Us All Band Together!

I'm sorry, but this just isn't true. It's an email that's been going around since at least 2001. You can read more about it, as well as why it wouldn't work at Snopes:

Interesting concept even in the form of a chain letter.

However, I haven't bought Exxon or now Exxon/Mobil gas in years.  I have always gone to the cheap "no brand" gas station that is usually 10c cheaper than the major brands.    But, hey, they get there gas from similar sources so their prices are rising too.

I have made a concerted effort to drive less (retired -- don't have to drive to work), but until the car companies come up with a cheap car that runs of sunshine, I don't see an end to higher gas prices.  Hybrids are more fuel effiicent, but their higher price offsets the potential future savings in gas  (tho with higher gas prices, they're beginning to make more sense.)

Another thing, when you send out a chain letter to 10 people, it doesn't expand exponentially since some people will receive it more than once and most people delete it without finishing it or sending it on.

I totally agree with you gas prices are waaaaay to high but I really thing maybe we should utilize public transportation more. gas is still being consumed but not by you personally maybe this would save some jobs who knows????? :-

If people lived close to work who would walk or bike, maybe that would hurt the oil companies, but for people who work long distance, that wouldn't work.  ExMo could be selling their gas to smaller gas stations too that people wouldn't know about.

To be honest, the problem with gas prices is that the oil market is not regulated at all.  Speculation, therefore, drives prices far higher than simple supply/demand.  If the prices were actually based on simple economics (supply/demand) they would be far lower.  Best thing we could do is push for tighter regulation for commodities trading.

I take a commuter train to work every day - since it's cold I've been driving to the train station, but now I'll be able to start walking again. This will limit my driving to the grocery store and to class!

Interesting idea but I think that if you all stop purchasing less gas it would help more.  Try making less trips to the store, car pool, use public transportation and if all else fails walk.  I tell my son that if he wants to get somewhere that is within a mile to walk.  I know that it only saves a little but a little each day adds up by the end of the week or month.  I used to go to the store for every little thing that I needed now if I am out of something we either use something else or don't have it until the next time I do a store run.  The problem is not just the gas price it is going to effect everything that we use.  So I think it is going to have to be more of a life style change then just advoiding different gas stations.  But what the heck it is worth trying.

Interesting concept, but I would agree better with public transportation, more people in one space, less cars equals less gas.

We can't "put a stop" to high gas prices anymore than we can "put a stop" to the tides. Half of the world's oil has been burned & all that's left is the pollution and carbon in the atmosphere. We've used up all the easy-to-obtain oil and  now use stuff that's more expensive to extract and refine. There are people who have been working on renewable energy techniques since the 70's, but they've been underfunded, marginalized and ridiculed until very recently. Even now, many people curse "those damn environmentalists" who are dedicating their lives to helping us out of the mess we've made!!  Americans saw this problem coming for a long time, but they refused to take it seriously. Now we're all suffering.
