have you ever stayed in a shelter? I would like to hear about your experience. you can contact me here or at salvaginjudith@gmail.com. my experience was overwhelming. The people really didn't help and just when i was getting ahead they put road blocks in my way. it was like they wanted to keep me down.

Sorry to hear about year experiences in a shelter. I have never stayed in one, and just instinct tells me I hope I never have to.

Here's a thought though someone can take with them that might be able to eliminate the need for shelters altogether. We call this thought a "wishful thinking thought" though, because I'm sure it will never happen.

Consider a neighborhood with several BLOCKS. And on every block there are 31 houses. I've deliberately picked 31 so the numbers are easy to work with. Now imagine (I'm feeling like John Lennon now), that one of those houses were allocated for One Homeless Family! Now imagine that the other 30 houses donated a very small portion of their income to finance this one house, so the Homeless Family wouldn't have to pay rent, or a mortgage. After some time, the house would be bought, and then no one would have to afford it. Let's play with some numbers.

Each of 30 houses donated 1000 per year. That's a nice income of 30,000 year. Heck, I live on 10,000 year, and I'm comfortable. That's a nice $576 a week, I'm sure anyone could live off that. And that's an expense of just $19/wk for each of those 30 households. Surely an affordable bill, considering many of us have Cable TV at twice that price!

And as far as a job goes for the Homeless family, why couldn't the 30 houses employ them to do odd jobs? Rake leaves, shovel snow, clean our garages, take out the trash, walk the dogs, the list could be endless. Afterall, if 30 houses are contributing to an income of $576 a week, I would think the Homeless Family would be tickled pink to lend a hand in the neighborhood block they were living in.

I bet if something like this would be actuated on, we could wipe out homelessness, and poverty in a way that's never been done! Good golly miss molly, I oughta run for governor....NOT!
