believer or non - believer?
« on: March 09, 2011, 07:05:51 am »
So me and my friends were discussing the topic of religon a few
days ago and none of them could answer my question which was:
Is it better to be a believer and belive in something such as devil worshiping or voodoo;
Or is it better to be an atheist, which is a non- believer of any religon?

Depends if you want to believe you are the master of your own life and fate (this stems into atheism-compatibilism) or if you're enslaved and threatened by witchcraft and weird schizophrenic gods.

So do you believe in jesus christ because it was the way you were raised, or did you learn it on your own, for yourself????? Im not talkin about going to church with your family, I mean did you decide it yourself.

Yes I was raised to believe in jesus christ, however, when I got older I researched other religons and the way they praise and their belief's ; I
Decided to stick with what I was raised to believe in.

Listen, think for yourself. Dont get drawn in to the old addage "if everyone else is doing it, I guess I should anyway." When we go to school as we get older, we start to learn about non-religious subjects, such as science and math, ect. We take those subjects all the way to Adult hood, because they are ableto manifests themselves and be applied in REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. Religious believes are about heresay, stories, and lore created by man many years ago. My point is that religion doesn't create actual proof for me that it is successfully applied to the real world, I can't see it, I can't touch it, and I damn sure can't use it to solve situations in my life.  Relying on religion to survive in this world is a cop-out, believing in yourself and your own abilities makes much more sense to me. I can't stand it when people on television that have just won something or reached a goal say:"I would like to thank god" because it's not true. People do not get enough credit these days, hows about thanking yourself and your abilities, and the people who helped you achieve your goal instead.
After all, it was you that accomplished that goal...........

Science does not explain everything, so how do you explian the unexplainable
You can't;and that is why I believe in my religon, and by the way you did not
create yourself, so maybe you should give the ppl b4 u some credit, and
Stop putting them down for having belief's in religon.

Saying "I don't know" and searching for evidence in a realistic way seems more humble and intelligent then sticking to old primitive ideas with obvious man-made deities just for the sake of staying comfortable in a naive fashion, does it not? I mean the world isn't flat and our planet is not in the center of the universe. Those used to be unexplainable concepts.

but those concepts have been proven to be explainable
by science, however, there are still things in this world that
Will never be able to be explained by science. So maybe your
the naieve one who doesn't believe that there had and has
To be a higher power; every thing is not visible to the human eye.

i am a non believer of christianity, i am pagan and i do believe in god and goddess, i dont believe in the devel, and no, witchcraft does not enslave you, as to popular belief, and pagans are not worshipers of devel for we dont believe in such, yes we do voodoo, but only for the good...we do believe in karma, so we do try to never harm none, that means animals or people or the nature..so the next time you wanna talk about pagans or witchcraft or voodoo or any of the like do your research and try not to spread any lies or miss guided facts about my religion

Well did you read my post? Again, saying "I don't know" isn't a bad thing. Science is able to adjust it's reasonings to better understand the universe. Faith cannot-- what it uses it loop-hole reasonings instead of completely changing with new found evidence (example being the creationist movement turning into the Intelligent Design movement). Obviously we don't know everything, and therefore there might be some supernatural/metaphysical entity that created everything-- I'm not saying that there isn't. But is there any proof? Nope. Unless one confines themselves to a specific religion and 'just uses faith' which, imho, is just bogus and is a self-deceptive quality because one can insert anything and believe it (god, gods, aliens, etc).

Could you please qualify your question?  Its a good one but in order to answer it...what do you define as "better"?

I mean that in your eyes as well as other people in society do you think it is better to
Be a believer of something such as devil worshiping or witch craft, or to just not believe
In any form of religon at all?

I did not say you had to be a christian, I said any religon; and secondly I asked a question, I said
A devil worshiper OR voodoo. I did not even state any facts; so before you respond,
Re- read the question,  and make and intelligent response as opposed to this one
I quoted you on.
