The question here isn't "should drugs be legal?" . the question is: do you think the government has the right to regulate what you put into your own body? even using heroine hurts nobody but yourself. so, since drugs are a victimless crime. it shouldnt be a crime right?

  I completely disagree with you about drugs only hurting the one that is using them. They also effect all family members involved with the person using the drugs. I honestly believe that Government should be more involved with this issue. It is an awful thing to see a family torn appart because a Mother or Father has a problem with drugs. As far as that goes it is awful to see anyone who has that monkey on their back. I have had to experience that first hand. That is why I finally got away from my husband of 24 years. I was unable to deal with all of the crap that goes along with addiction. Besides, my children deserve better than that.

I look at it both ways.
My mother was a drug addict, so I know the ways that drugs can affect other people. Taking drugs does not hurt other people, but the things that the drugs make you do, can hurt people.. my mother almost burnt down the house once.. while we were sleeping... another time she was gonna go to the store, luckily, I stopped her before she got behind the wheel. She could have killed somebody.

Buuuuttt If you wanna lock yourself in a room, and give up your keys, then I'm all for it. I don't see anything wrong with having a wee bit of fun as long as it is where you can't hurt someone else...     If you want to wreck your body with drugs, thats your choice. Nobody should stop you.

I do think the governement intervenes too much in our lives and that they should focus on bigger matters, however allowing the legalization of drugs would only lead to more harm than good. My best friend of 15 years, practically my brother, robbed our house because he owed drug money and was scared for his life. Imagine how many more (and worse) instances like this would occur if drugs were allowed. It would just lead to an overall decline of health and intelligence in the human population, which we definitely do not need.

Besides pot smokers, every druggie I have ever encountered has left numerous victims in their path. There are plenty of parents, siblings, significant others, children, friends, that have been verbally, mentally and physically abused by the one doing drugs. There have been so many people injured or killed due to someone on drugs thinking they can drive, starting a fire. Meth houses have been sold or rented w/o knowledge of meth being previously made there and the new family falls victim due to everything staying in the walls, carpet etc. Yet you say it is victimless!

Legalize drugs and tax the &*#! out of them. Use the taxes to fund drug prevention and treatment programs & health insurance for those who can't afford it. If the entire country did this, my bet is that there wouldn't be much more drug abuse than there is now, and the Mexican narcotraficantes would lose at least some of their lethal power!

I look at it from both sides. Yes, mostly the narcotics, methamphetamine... etc hurt more than just the person taking them. I have a newly found sister-in-law that is hurt emotionally everyday by the drug abuse that her mother chooses to do. Thankfully she lives with her grandparents and does not have to put up with her addiction draining every penny they have. However, there are some that I understand - pain remedies, marijuana - I understand that a little better. I have family & in-laws that have gone through every addiction. My husband has painful remedies of his mother choosing her drug dealing boyfriend and his drugs over him & his siblings several times. My brother-in-law has been going in and out of jail for the past few years due to battling drug addictions. At the same time I have friends and family that have addictions that really doesn't hurt anyone. For example (I will not name whom) but 1 person I know, stresses themself out more than necessary & all their responsibilities, worries, stresses, and ambitions usually hit them all at once. But smoking marijuana helps them sort through the jumbled mess in order to actually think things through and make more sound, responsible decisions. On the other hand- this same addiction does cause problems for those around them. It makes finding a reputable job almost impossible, which makes obtaining an income without killing themselves an almost impossible task as well. Also, it is a constant struggle for those who do use it in a productive manner to fight the addiction enough to be able to have control over the addiction rather than the addiction control them.

There is the good point that - in many instances Marijuana has many of the same effects of alcohol (yes speaking from prior experimental experience). So, I do think that if they allow alcohol legal and able to tax the H#@! out of it  as well as regulate it and put stipulations on the use of it  - why shouldn't they do the same for marijuana. It would cut down on the "black market" or street corner sales of it and the local & federal governments would be able to use the tax money towards bettering our country - whether it be to health care programs, schools, road repair, etc. They could also reduce the amount of money going to other countries - like mexico - supplying it to the US and using the money to fund war-for-profit, overseas gun sales, etc. It would actually put money back into the economy rather than out from under the table.

Do you actually think the government would use any monies gained through higher taxes for something to benefit others ie NOT themselves and their own special interests? I certainly don't. It has never happened before and this country is more chaotic now than it has ever been.

I also refuse to take the bait.  Anyone with any grey matter at all knows that drugs is certainly NOT a victimless crime.  As a matter of fact, there is no such thing as a victimless crime!!

THOUSNDS and THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of Americans DIE EVERY YEAR from LEGAL DRUGS!!  MANY, MANY, MANY MORE die from LEGAL drugs than from ILLEGAL DRUGS !! Duh??? What is wrong with that picture??
