Have you heard??/
« on: February 27, 2011, 08:40:34 pm »
Recently, I stumbled upon some blogs and vlogs about the DANGERS OF MICROWAVE. They were basically talking about how microwaves really heat food and how this manner is not healthy and is dangerous, which is the use of radiation to shake the water molecules within the food, producing heat ( heating the food from the inside out). When molecules are split some other form is produced. (I'm not a science freak.)

Now, don't take me for a old person who witnessed the integration of the microwave; I'm just a teen. But I watch what I eat and where my food comes from due to a poor digestive system. My system does not digest microwaved food. So I quit using the microwave a few months ago.

What do you think of the microwave? Do you think it is really dangerous. Or are you like, "whatever, everyone is usin' it."

I got an email about that.  We've had the same microwave for probably 35 years so we haven't used it a whole lot but it is handy in some cases.  I think probably a lot of what you get when you eat out is microwaved.

This is an old scare email.  Microwave radiation does not change the molecular structure of the food.  As radiation is a form of energy - what a microwave does is transfer the energy of the microwave radiation into the water molecules of the food, causing them to excite (aka "shake faster").  The faster the water molecules "shake", the warmer the food gets.

Same principle happens when you boil water - only the source may be a gas flame, or electrons running through your electric burner stove...or a campfire or even a gas grill.  Whether you know it or not - all these other forms of energy also give off their own radiation.  This is how we feel heat.

If you want to read more about this, here's a link that was posted on Snopes.com about a "plant experiment with microwave water" they debunked:

Snopes is a great site to check things like this out. Along with all the crap that gets re-posted on Facebook. If I hear that stupid rumor about sex offenders asking you to use a cartoon for your profile picture, I'm gonna scream.

That is an old email and no I don't think its a problem.  Most people don't know how to properly use a microwave and thats why food doesn't come out right.  You have to add liquid to the food in order for it to work right.  Microwaves have moved up since then and are not a prob.
