So I just read that people are happier when...

they are busy.  I think it's true.  People often complain about how busy there are, but if you weren't busy it seems life would be so boring.  I like being busy and think it's annoying when people complain about it - EVERYONE'S BUSY, SO STOP COMPLAINING BECAUSE YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT ALONE!  I always think to myself when I hear people complain about being busy ..."you think that's busy, try a day in my shoes lady!"

This does make a bit of sense.  If you don't spend a lot of time doing something to keep you busy you might start to feel a little bit useless.  Having something to do means you probably have some sort of purpose, or at least it will feel that way.

I agree to some extent with that.  We tend to be task and goal oriented, so when we are busy, we feel like we are making progress or contributing to accomplishing something.  Then when reached, we feel good.  In the process, we gain pleasure from overcoming challenges and obstacles, and monitoring our progress along the way.

However, there can be a stage where we become too "busy", then that leads to a feeling of being overwhelmed, disorganized and sometime despair - because now we got to the point that we have so many activities, we may enter a state of paralysis - not knowing where to start.  Then we are not "happy" in those "busy" circumstances.

On the converse, not having things to do - often result in us feeling "bored", for lack of activities.  Then we don't feel happy as we're not contributing - thus not gaining that sense of accomplishment or satisfaction.

I feel happiest when I'm working.  I like the feeling of getting things done.

:thumbsup:I believe that you have the right theory on this subject! It does get irritating to hear somebody complain about being "busy" when they have hardly had to do anything! I would much rather be busy than completely bored out of my mind with nothing to do though! How about you?

well, i don't know about anyone else, but when
i'm busy doing something, my mind is pre-occupied
from the worries and burdens of life. thus, its an
escape and i probably AM happier while i'm busy.

however, the busy-ness itself isn't what makes
me happy.

hope that makes sense

I feel happiest when I'm working.  I like the feeling of getting things done.

I often marvel at all that my daughter manages to get done in a day full time teacher and mother of 3 boys so to say she is busy is an understatement but as she says she thrieves on it and appreciates all the quite time a lot more when she can get it so yes busy is good especially when  you accomplish a lot.  Me I prefer busy but good busy like crocheting reading all the other daily tasks one has to do to keep their world on the straight and narrow

I think you need to be busy doing things you love and enjoy, with the people that you want to spend that time with.

What ever people do or complaint about anything is how they are feel.  But complaint about busy it's hard to accept.  I have a friend every single time I call her she said "I'm so busy"... end up I never call her again.  Because I think she too busy to hang around with me :)

I agree. I hate being bored with nothing to do.
