Do you use a shredder?
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:48:36 am »
I have one under my computer desk.  I quite often open my mail as I am waiting for various things to happen on my computer.  Any junk mail goes into a recycling sack, but I first take off anything that has my name on it.  I even rip out the part of order blanks from catalogs if my name in on them.  I fill up a grocery sack every week with paper recycling.  I also fill up another one with newspapers.  My shredder is a cross cut one so it would be impossible to reconstruct anything.

I use my shredder everyday.  There are too many con artists out there just waiting to go thru your mail or garbage to gain info about you.  Anything with my name and address goes thru the shredder including expired credit cards.  I shred junk mail also to be on the safe side.

Sometimes I do.  Lately I've just been tearing the mail in pieces.

Yes I also use a shredder and I burn.  These days you never know who is going through your trash.  I take time to rip off name, address, etc off everything and discard rest.  Gotta be smart these days.   :)

I wish I had a shredder, Ill always use the blank backsides of mail for notes or drawing exercises, after that sometimes Ill use em as kindling for my fireplace, and one time I tore up the paper, put it in a blender, and used the pulp to make new paper.

That was fun for a little bit, I used an online tutorial for that. The paper came out very rough and sturdy, not too ideal for pencil but markers worked fine on it

My parents have one in their room and I use it when shredding documents with personal information in them.

No. I do not use or own a shredder because they take up space. It may be helpful and useful to shred sensitive information such as credit card and bank statements. I have used the paper shredder to shred old unwanted documents at work, and once I shred too many, the shredder will jam up. I don’t think it is important to have one. I can just use scissors to cut them to tiny pieces and then throw them away.

We either shred or file things. We file bank statements, bills, etc. (we keep them for one year, then shred them) but we shred things like junk mail (credit card offers), anything with our social security number that we don't plan to or don't need to keep, etc. I really don't know what we'd do without our paper shredder.
