How many parts of Hell is there ?
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:50:31 pm »
After heavily reading my Bible
...There are two places in Hell .....

   Paradise and Torment

In Luke chpt 16 vers 19-31 explains clearly
two people died. a Rich man died  and in hell (hades) he lifts up his eyes being in torment..actual flames. Looking across a great gulf into the paradise section of hades , a place of comfort, Abraham is seen. The rich man cried for Abraham to send Lazarus with water to cool his tongue. Being told by Abraham that this was not possible, the rich man asked that somebody be sent to his brothers to warn them NOT to come to this awful place of suffering. That request was also denied.
This account by Jesus is not a parable. In a parable, no PROPER names are ever mentioned. In this account, the names of Abraham and Lazarus were given.

Lazarus went to Paradise, a place of rest. Abraham was there and all others who died in faith.
Those  in torment section of hell remain there until the final day of judgment spoken in Revelation 20:12-15

Well, if you listen to a book written by imperfect men... there's no tellin.

It could change from day to day... from book to book... chapter to chapter... etc

That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

Lynn:  Good question.  Actually, according to the King James Version, Lazarus went to be with Abraham in his "bosom", or at Abraham's side while the rich men went to hell (hades.)  Where Abraham was, was not hell:

"22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom."

The lake of fire will be the eternal place of punishment after hades. The lake of fire will also take place after everyone gives account of what they have done:

" Revelation 20:13
The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done."
"Revelation 20:14
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death."

John, in the Book of Revelation, also explains how there will also be a new heaven and a new earth:

"Revelation 21:1 (KJV)
“ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."

9 circles.  Circle 7 is divided into 3 sections, Circle 8 is divided into 10 (I think,) and Circle 9 is divided into 4 sections.  Of course there's the Vestibule too, but that's technically outside of Hell.

Unless Dante was just making things up of course  8)

Hell is a holding place for souls until the Judgement (not purgatory.....there's no getting out).  The lake of fire is the reward of sin after the Great Judgement.  We will all have different bodies (indestructible).  Bodies that will never die, or be destroyed, to take eternal happiness, or eternal damnation.

It depends on your definition of hell.

As used in the Bible, "Hell" derives from the Greek "Hades".  We commonly view it as a place of torment and fire for the wicked departed, though it is often held both in Jewish and Christian churches that Hades (merely a general term for ALL the departed) consists of two parts: (as previously stated) Paradise and Gehenna, one for the departed righteous and one for the wicked.  Gehenna is the Greek equivalent of the "Valley of Hinnom" a deep glen where the idolatrous jews offered their children to Molech.

Luke 16 is an excellent example of this, as given by lynn426.  The gulf described by the Rich man denotes a separation of the wicked and Righteous in this Spirit Afterlife.  This state is temporary as they await the resurrection.  The temporal nature of this state is given in Rev. 20:12-15.

Actually, the Bible says that if you're not with Jesus, then you will "perish". Perish means you get destroyed, rather than having eternal life. So if your soul is destroyed, it can't get punished eternally, right?
