You Know What I Think Is Stupid?
« on: January 24, 2011, 12:20:12 pm »
I work as a cashier, and when people are done checking out I'll see them take all their stuff out of the cart like they are going to carry it, but still push the cart back to where they got it from.  Why wouldn't you just push the cart to its destination THEN take your stuff out - duh!  I'm sure it's not easy to push a cart with one hand and carry a bunch of junk in the other.

Maybe they just want to carry it for a little exercise. I always park my car a little further than necessary from a store entrance just because I want to walk.

There are a couple really intelligent reasons I can think of, off the top of my head. Number one, they want to save the store some money. Instead of leaving the cart in the parking lot (and requiring the store to pay someone to retrieve it), they've done something nice. Number two, the person might not want to get in the way of the people getting their carts as they enter. If they have their bags in their hands, they can move out of the way quickly as soon as they get to the cart area.  :)

That’s very nice and thoughtful of the customer to push the cart back where they got it even though it can be viewed as inefficient. Not many mindful people would do a kind gesture in public. It makes it easier for the next person. It’s like washing hands in the sink in public restrooms and carelessly tossing the paper towel and not picking it up from the floor to the wastebasket where it should belong.  :)

Great answer. Sometimes if you think, you will find many answers to your question....looking at it in a positive way would be nice. It really sounds like the cashier gets upset about it, don't know why, unless she has to go help them pick up bags if they drop them ... LOL

I work as a Courtesy Clerk and I'm getting tired of people leaving the carts all over the parking lot. Then, when it rains and I bring the carts inside the store. The customers would pull all the wet carts out just to see if they can find a dry cart. I'm also getting tired of the way some people drive. Some would ignore the stop signs and thats why I nearly got hit a few times. There is also arrows painted out in the parking lot and people will go the opposite direction. I'm just curious how those people ever got their driver license. Anyways, I need to find a way to get back into carpentry ASAP.

Thanks so much! If you take a minute to think about why people act the way they do, it's much better than assuming they're idiots.  :)
