Funeral of Christina Green
« on: January 11, 2011, 09:58:51 am »
As this family grieves for the death of their 9 year old daughter and prepare for funeral services, the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS is preparing to picket the funeral, claiming because they are catholic and God hates catholics. What a bunch of nuts! Don't these people respect the right of privacy for this family? Don't they realize the pain these people are going through? WBC should leave them alone!! What are YOUR thoughts on this? :angel12:

For those that don't know who Christina Green is, she is the little girl killed by the gunman in Arizona who shot up the gathering with Congresswoman Gabby Gifford.

Thats disgusting, I am all for freedom of speech however,

that is not only a private funeral but it's a funeral for a nine year old girl.

A Child  :angel11:

and as a father myself I can't even think about what those parents are going through,

and now they have to see protesters outside its just horrible

How nice that they're more than just their usual "God hates faggots" schtick.

These idiots will have a circle of hell all their own.

i saw this in the news and i have one question for anyone who will answer me without getting mad at me for my lack of knowledge.  i was raised in the roman catholic church and i realize each has their differences, but we were not allowed to get involved with this type of thing.  i thought the baptists were the same way.

It never amazes me (anymore) the level of stupidity that people have reached, and continue to go even higher each day.  Maybe I am out of the loop or don't watch enough TV, but what could possibly be gained by picketing this funeral?  What is even more aggravating to me is that these are supposed Christians.  What ever happened to "Love thy neighbor as thyself"?

:)    Look what was accomplished yesterday:  "Arizona legislators quickly approved emergency legislation Tuesday to head off picketing by a Topeka, Kan., church near the funeral service for a 9-year-old girl who was killed in the Tucson shootings."  " Dozens of lawmakers co-sponsored the bill, and legislative action was completed within 90 minutes. The Senate's committee hearing took just three minutes".   Read more at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/11/AR2011011103587.html

Good.  It's also nice to see that volunteers will be making "human shields" to block the family's view of those cruel monsters.  I wonder what would happen if one day some grieving parent gets so angry that they shoot some of those people and kill them; then people may be coming to picket their funerals.

Edit: Not that I think that's right either...but I'm venting.  :angry7:

For those who think so, rest assured that the Westboro Baptist Church is not representative of most Baptists or most Christians - rather, they are the ones giving all of us who are Christian a bad name!  It seems like the only news put out there about us is the bad stuff, like things about the activities of this supposed "church."  Such behavior needs to be condemned, and the family of this nine year old girl needs to be left in peace to mourn their loss.  For once, it sounds like lawmakers made the choice any decent human being would make and banned picketing near funerals.

I often wonder what constitutes abuse of free speech. Would this be one of those times? I certainly thing Westboro is pushing that line! :BangHead:

Beliefs are one of the main reasons the world is as separated as it is. Its sad to think that this little girl can't be laid to rest in peace because of people like that. When it comes to a funeral I don't care what your religion is and so you shall not care what mine is, you should respect it and let the family and friends mourn their loss.
That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

It is a shame that people still continue to act like this.  What do they hope to gain?  It's just crazy.

The thing that makes me ill about the WBC is that they spew their hate legally.  They talk with police in the area and make sure that they stay the legal distance away and etc...

As much as it makes me sick, and as much as I agree that if there is a hell, the WBC will have their own circle dedicated to them alone, I can see the ACLU stepping in and challenging this new law, and I honestly can't say that I believe wholly that they are in the wrong legally.  It is morally abhorrent that the WBC want to picket, but the First Amendment doesn't just protect the ones we agree with.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I get what you're saying and agree wholeheartedly with you. But just to play devils advocate. Could AZ enact a law that would supercede government law as long as AZ supreme court didn't find it unconstitutional along the lines with the AZ constitution? Since the 10th amendment allows for a state to retain rights, could they (the state) use the 10th as their defense of the law they enacted and in fact use nullification (which Thomas Jefferson much supported) to make the laws of AZ supercede that of the Federal Government?
