Good or bad you should be happy you have a mother-in-law.  I don't have one, so I am missing out on something good.
Try to get to know her.  Maybe if you try to understand her, she not be that bad.

surely there's a reason she's so bitter - not that i'm
taking her side or excusing her thoughtfulness! but
i wonder what has her panties in wad? that's really
sad that she didn't even CALL on christmas. have
her children been good to her, or is she one of
those mothers that has been taken advantage of,
lied to, and stepped on? surely there's something
behind her carelessness.

i'm sorry to hear about your MIL. luckily, i have
a lot in common with mine and she's very open
and loving.

maybe write her a letter and reach out to her?
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Sorry to hear that about your mother-in-law.  I dont have that problem at all with mine.  this is my second marraige and after my first marriage ended(my first mother-in-law and I were very close) I havent really gotten too close to my second one, because if hurt losing the first one..  I know that is my fault, but my mother in law now is a great person and will help anyone if she can..  Her favorite saying is "If you can live with them, I can live around them"  haha.

MIL are people & like people some suck really bad and some are really sweet.
just love her with a long handle spoon and don't let her steal your joy.
u stay happy in spite of her sour attitude. enjoy life & think about the
good in life and instead thinking about how rotten apples stink.

Hey so sorry to hear about your MIL. Yeah sometimes it happens that they are very rude. Try to get away from her or just stop talking. May be you can find a solution just think and speak about it to your husband as well.

Sorry. In my experience, all mother-in-laws are terrible.

So your living with her or in your own place.  Now also is this your boyfriend or husband?  She is only a mother-n-law if your married to him.  Yes I do know what you mean about her being a downer and it can be a problem only if you let it be though.  My mother-n-law would love me to death in front of her friends and others but later found out she hatted me and tried to break our marriage up but I did nothing to provoke her in any way.  I did as she would ask of me everything we went up like he always did the problem with here was no one was ever good enough for her son except her we later found out.  She did this to his previous marriages.  I didn't let it get to me just smile tell her you love her and if you can help then help her.  You try weither or not she is then at least you know you did your best and you can live with out reqrets.  Someone has to offer an olive branch it might as well be you.

I went through many years with a mother-in-law who was overbearing and vindictive.  She didn't like me to begin wit and always managed to let me know in her subtle ways.  I try to be more understanding.  I wish my MIL and I could have gotten along.
