Im getting MARRIED!!!! ADVICE!!!!
« on: December 05, 2010, 06:36:18 am »
I am getting married in 6mo!!!! SUPER EXCITED!!!!!

But....we have like nothing done. We have our DJ, cook, hall, photographer/videographer, & invitation idea they just need to be made. But as far as decorating the hall that is on a standstill.

When we first started all the wedding planning I was thrilled about all the planning and decorating the hall, but the more weddings that we go to and i start looking at what everyone else has i don't want to do anything for ours.  The weddings look VERY NICE DONT GET ME WRONG....but who remembers? They usually remember who they sat with the food and how much fun they had.  So i am wondering how little is too little as far as decorations?  I would be fine with having the colored table cloths and then just little candles on the tables, and for the head table just have the girls flowers on the table with some more nicer looking candles.  TOO LITTLE??

Not to be a party pooper, but it is just one day, and the wedding is not what marriage is about.  My advice is to have a simple celebration because you may regret spending all that money if you get divorced.

When my fiance and I finally get married, we are just going to the JP to get it done.  No parties, no gifts, no fuss.  It's not like that little piece of paper and a couple of rings will change how we live.   :P

And in the end, it's about what the two of you want, not what people "expect" from weddings.  If you are most comfortable with a simple wedding, that's your prerogative; no one else should have any say that matters.  It is YOUR wedding, afterall.

You can have a very nice wedding without going over board on all the decorations.  I am getting married in October and I refuse to pay an arm and leg for things.  Our wedding will be nice and it will be us.

I am happy that there are more of me out here!

When I found out that the table covers alone were $300 I was shocked!!! In my area that is the cheapest we can get, so decorations scare me after hearing that price!

My fiancee and I are not fancy people, the majority of the weddings we attend in our area is about FUN!! Not wine, and fancy food. We have mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, pork, beef, and cake!!!

Quite frankly unless you are having a huge wedding a wedding chapel is a better way to go. They are already very nicely decorated.

I have a very big family, and his is not too small either. We are having 500 guests invited (which is somewhat average).  There are times where I say lets just go to the courthouse and get it done, but I want my dad to have the special moment of walking me down the aisle. So a church wedding is a definate for me.  But the more I think about it a laid back casual reception is sounding better and better.

I like your idea of keeping it simple. You could spread some confetti if you think it looks to plain. When my sister got married she had the candles, cameras, bells and mints/nuts. It was fairly simple.

Do a complete CRIMINAL, HEALTH and FINANCIAL Background check on this person and they should also do one on you. Both attend Marriage Counseling. Make sure that you are in agreement about all major issues like having children, finances, religion and that there WILL BE NO DIVORCE. You are in this boat of MARRIAGE untill one of you dies.

So know who you are getting in the boat with, and then you both must learn how to compromise as your boat journey continues. IF you don't, you will both be miserable, and one of you may die, OR the marriage will die, then everybody ( including the children, IF you have any, will suffer FOREVER!!

Sugestion ... premarital counseling :D I wish I had more of it  :thumbsup:it covers essential topics that you want to get straight before you tie the knot. The point is to talk about the stuff you would talk about if you knew that you should talk about it... uncomfortable and all. Though it can be some awkward talks its always benifitial to know before you get into a life long commitment and find out that your significant other likes to sleep under the bed. But even just to be prepared for when you have to disapline your first child for the first time. to sum up it opens up lines of communication that will make sure you are both on the same page :D

We have attended classes that are required through our church and we still have 2 more to attend. He has a child....WHO I LOVE  and we have discussed how many children of our own we want and how we want to raise them.  We are currently living together to help with the child's situation, so we have had our discussion on everything.

We had a discussion last night about making sure that we are always saying I love you before hanging up the phone, before bed and when we are away for long periods of time.  We never go to bed mad at each other because you never know what will happen, the last thing I say to him i don't want to regret.
