Do you play cards?
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:22:42 am »
We either play 500 or Hand and Foot.  In case you have never heard of Hand and Foot, it is somewhat like Canasta.  We like to get three tables - 12 of us - and then switch off partners after each hand.  We are cheapies, so everybody puts in a dollar and winner gets something and then big loser gets something.

We play poker with some friends. We usually have a pot luck or a snack luck!!! Then we play for a nickle a chip, max bet 5 chips. Dealer calls the game. We have a blast and it is a cheap night out (or in if it is at our house) We take turns on whose house we play at.

Having 3 grandsons my card games are mostly War and Fish so to improve on that I recently taught the older boy Max to play Gin and he is getting the hang of it we all have fun.  Oh almost forgot another one is called Stick Your neighbor similar to Uno but played with regular cards 2 decks Max knows how to play that one now if I could get the others interested in learning it would be very interesting indeed. ;D

Absolutely!! We love playing cards. Back when we all used to hang out with the in-laws, we'd all drink and play poker, texas hold'em, and bullshit and a few others. We had a lot of fun! We don't play as much as we used to though :( , but when everyone gets together to play, its a blast!! ;D

 Really enjoy getting together with friends on the weekends and playing cards. Usually Texas Hold Em. Very competitive, fun to play. Also really like to play spades. Fast paced, keeps you thinking.

My family plays cards when we have a family gathering. On Thanksgiving we played Uno which was a lot of fun since we had 9 people! I don't have a regular game with friends though.

I always enjoy getting together to play some cards with friends or family.  We play euchre, cribbage, and gin mostly.  I love to play cards online as well, and play a much bigger variety, also playing hearts, spades, canasta, pinochle, and poker.

So there are cribbage players out there We play all the time at the Holiday gatherings the best part is all the friendly ribbing that goes on we have a lot of laughs Fun game. Now if I could get my grandsons to play this one They like other games and also play chess very well for 8 and 10 year olds actually they have both been laying chess for several years I can not get the hang of it so it is war or fish and sometimes Uno.  ;D

I like Rummy when I'm playing with my kid. Bull**** is a fun game with a lot of adults. I've also heard it called I Doubt It and BS.

Most historians believe that the earliest playing cards have originated in (or before) the 9th century in Central Asia, probably China and Hindustan. China seems to be a good candidate for the origin of playing cards because it is the land where paper was invented (China has been making paper since A.D. 100; paper came to Europe only around A.D. 1000). However, for many years China was rejected as the origin of playing-cards because traditional Chinese playing cards are so unlike Western ones.  My Favorite card game is poker.  According to some sources, cards first appeared in Italy by the late 1200s and then subsequently spread throughout the rest of Europe. The same source dates the first recorded evidence of the use of playing cards in Italy in 1299, but does not substantiate this claim by any historic evidence.

Wow I haven't thought of Canasta in years.  Used to play that card game a lot.  My husband and I play rummy every evening....good for the math skills.  Friends want us to lear Euchre so we can play with them.....anybody else play Euchre?  And, no I am not a hundred years old.....my grandmother used to play Euchre.  Is it hard to play...is it fun?

I love the game.  I learned to play it about 10-11 years ago.  I taught my wife and her sister how to play.  If your grandsons like chess and are very good at it, they should find learning crib a breeze.  I bet they'd also be very good!  :D  If not, Uno still rocks!

I don't think it is very hard and I think it's quite fun.  It's a partners game.  You play with 9s through aces only.  It has elements of spades, in that your goal is to take tricks.  But unlike spades, trump can change from hand to hand, you only get dealt 5 cards, you don't need to bid how many tricks you think you'll take, and some others are some of the bigger differences.

A few online sites have the game where you could learn to play against computer players.  Pogo.com, Yahoo! Games, and Games.com are just a few which come to mind.
