College Care Basket Ideas
« on: November 16, 2010, 07:40:51 am »
I have a younger brother that is a freshman in college, and thought that perhaps, in addition to the regular christmas present I'll be giving him, that some sort of care package would be nice for him to take back to school.  Does anyone have any ideas of what sorts of items/foods/etc.. would be a good part of the package?

I'm probably going to throw in a case of ramen, since it seems to be an essential item for him...but I'm not sure what else.  :dontknow:

I think a care package is a great idea! I just graduated and it was always a happy day when I got a care package from my sister...no matter how big or small it was. I'd put in a bunch of his favorite candy and/or snacks...maybe something that can only be found around your hometown? And maybe throw in some medicine or Emergen-C....germs spread like crazy on college campuses. I hope whatever you do, he likes it!

That is super nice of you! I want to say vitamins, coffee, energy drinks, some favorite candy, a picture frame, a gift card for food or gas card, chapstick, and an umbrella.

My husbands military...so I send care packages all the time :)  Things he appreciates are beef jerky, microwave popcorn, microwaveable meals (ones made from hormel or dinty moore don't have to be frozen or refridgerated), candy/gum, movies...and of course things to help make the room feel like home...picture frames, etc...Good Luck~

what a wonderful idea.
if he is some place cold - maybe hot chocolate? A nice warm blanket or pair of gloves.
Gift cards are nice....even if just a $5 to add to the other things
Candies, cookies - his favorite treats.

My suggestions:
Popcorn,
CDs or music download gift cards,
Socks and underwear,
poptarts,
peanut butter,
assorted candy,
picture of you in a frame,
 some $
hygiene products (toothpaste and brush, hair stuff, deoderant, body spray, body wash)

a COOK BOOK!

i know there's a book out there called "the college
survivor cook book" or something close to that.
i've definitely seen it and thought it would be a
great gift idea! check amazon or half.com for it

as my roommates and i got settled in during our
first week of college, we realized that none of us
had thought to buy a can opener! and you really
can't open a can with a knife, although we tried...
for about an hour.

one of those little lights that attach to a book might
be helpful for late night studying...

a grocery gift card would be really helpful. you don't
realize how much food you consume until you're the
one paying for it!

hope that helps :)
