No, I really think they need 5 days, because a teacher have hard enough time trying to teach all that is required in 5 days.  Something needs to be done if they do this.  I am a grandmother and I would hate to see my grandchildren days cut. :'(

I don't think school should be reduced, but I also don't think it should be increased. I don't know about you guys, but after 7 hours of school everyday, I was exhausted and drowsy once I got home. Kids need at least a couple days a week to refresh and get some rest.

This is the best answer, by far.   School was so exhausting growing up, then there was the cliche's (popular kids), bullies, mean teachers (some good ones too), getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, and having to deal with so many other issues.

I'm in favor of home schooling all the way.  Less pressure, no bullies.  I know that's impossible for some because of work, but like us, if you work at home, then it would be feasible.

Our own children had to go thru the same crap that we did.

I knew of one family that home schooled their children.  Those kids were the best behaved children that I've ever seen.  The mother worked at home and stayed home with them.

I feel you should have school five days a week because if it is reduced y ewthan you don't learn everything that you could. If the were shortened they would have to have school days much longer. Personally I just feel its easier to keep it the way its been for years its much easier that way.

If the gas prices continue to rise, they may not have an option in order to stay open.  In my area which is 95% +/- rural, many children live way out in the county and our system has to operate many buses already.  If more funds have to buy gasoline, the cuts will have to be made somewhere.
Have a wonderful day!

Since we have moved here on post our kids attend school 5 days per week, but EVERY Wednesday they have a half of a day...not to mention ANYTIME there is a holiday or reason to have a day off, they close school.

where i live the public schools have seriously cut down hours this school year. my son goes to school from 9am to 3pm monday tuesday thursday and friday and on wednesdays he goes from 9am to 140pm. then the 2nd friday of every month is off for staff day/inservice and then the last monday of every month is a furlough day. my son gets a whole week off for thanksgiving, 3 weeks for christmas, and a week for spring break. school starts the last week in august and gets out the 3rd week in may. luckily my son is a great student and this has not affected his grades/development but i have seen how it has affected other kids in our neighborhood and it is such a shame the the education system is honestly failing our children.

Well I personally think that they should add a extra hour or so on the school day and make it 4 days just for the fact that i can not afford to drive them back and force every day with the gas now 4.17 a gallon and raising. They woud still get the same amount of hours per week but saves gas for the buses (schools) and us parents :) and makes kids happy they have a 3 day weekend ever week win win situation.

I love the fact that my kids are in school 5 days a week but it does make it hard to do fun things some times.  I did however, love the school schedule while we were in Hawaii.

They consider it year round school.  This really is not the case.  Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri the kids went normal days from 8-3.  Wed they went from 8-1.  They had 2 weeks off for Spring break, a month for winter break (Christmas) and about 2 months for Summer break.  It all equaled out in the end to the same as normal school but less stress for both parents and kids.

I think it should be left to 5 days if possible and if they have to lengthen them not more than about 20 to 30 minutes. My grand daughter is in Kindergarten and doing real well but I think the full days of school take a lot out of these little ones even when they really enjoy going like she does.
As for parents considering the schools to be daycare I don't know any that actually do. They have to work and have to make plans for working around their children's education.

No.sometimes I think 5 days isn't enough.as a kid I always wondered why adults didn't look forward to summer with kids running around, now I see why. I think the weekend is plenty of time for kids to cause trouble.don't think we need 3 days

NO !!! It's hard enough for our children to retain everything that's thrown at them now. We need more teachers and smaller classes.. To many kids get left in the dust.

reduced school days? why so they can get dumber? it should be 5 days a week 10 hour days and no summer vacations

I agree with PMZ908 the kids are getting dumber & dumber & bcome less prepared for college & the work force. I think, kids today should go to school 7 days a week & school should be year round with short holiday breaks in between not summer vacation. I think that summer vacation is  a waste of time. Without reviewing, practicing what they were suppose to learn during the fall semester. They usually forget all they have learned when summer begins.
Sad, Asian kids parents start the learning process from the womb on wards. You wonder why Asian & foreign kids top the grade scale & have learned 5 to 6 different languages fluently under their belts b/4 leaving middle school.  Coupled with a strict routine daily life. Go to class, Do home work, do chores, help in the kitchen. After dinner go back review prepared  class notes. Get clothes ready for next day.  Go to sleep. Strict rules on their kids. No, dating, no parties, games......until they graduate college.

Mistakes that rippled through out the education system. : Leave no child behind just made it sure for the kid w/the barely passing grade a boost up. This didn't help him go into the new world successfully. Teacher w/little to now experience in the subject. Teachers that reuse old teaching materials.
Today, we are still losing the education battle on our kids now b/c not enough time in the year to really teach school kids the basic backgrounds they need to compete with other foreign school children.

I believe it all depends.. If the school days are longer then yes or if the school days are shorter or stay the same than no. I believe that children need to learn and go to school.. We have all been there and done that (Well most of us have anyways) and in my opinion it is very important. Some children think "Yea as if I am ever going to use this in life" and they are probably most likely right but from everything that I have learnt from school I believe I have used more than not in life.

It would give kids time to be refreshed but just cause problems for parents.

Yes. The intense concentration is good for kids, and it would
1. Save energy
2. Give the children more free time to just be kids!

I think that we, as a society, are losing touch with our families.  If it takes working a little harder Monday thru Thursday so that we can spend an intact three day weekend with our family I am all for it.  Sweden does it and has less incidence of depression, crime and murder. I think that it would be better for our economy because if we are able to spend more time with our family we are, most likely, going to be sppending more money.
