I saw your post on FB this morning.  Thanks for the greeting!  Another test today but I don't feel real prepared for it so I'm going to study a bit more before I go to school at 8.  It's raining here again this morning.  It poured all day yesterday but at least it was fairly warm.  Today it's supposed to only be in the low 40's.

I'm off of school on Friday and it's supposed to be warm so I'm planning on doing some yard work.  Lord knows the yard needs it and I could use the exercise.  I feel like I'm trying to put on the Freshman 15!

Have a great day.  Hope the increase and change in meds helps.

Hi there!  It's after 9:00 p.m. here so that means you have already taken your test.  Do you know how you did?

We were able to get outside a little today and do some sprucing up.  We had the windows open to invite the clean, crisp, cool air in since it was in the mid 60s.  The storm that went through during the night was awful - hail, gales/gusts (some tornados), thunder/lightning  -  it shook the whole house.  Our neighbor lost his tin roof off of his horse shed. We have some friends a little further up in GA and they had it even worse.  They've also been without electricity for about 18 hours now.   Then today is so beautiful! Sunny, cool, fresh stiff breeze - definitely my kind of weather!

Okay, enough of me, already, lol.  I enjoy sharing on here.  I'm usually very quiet, though; even my family would tease me if they saw how much I write in this forum!  Hope tomorrow is a great day for you!

Julie  :)    :cat:

test results and weather
« Reply #227 on: April 06, 2011, 03:54:37 am »
Good morning Judy.

I only got an 87 on the test but I'm pulling an A in the class so I still have time to make up the difference on other tests or bonus points.  I knew I wasn't all that well prepared.  I have a lot going on in my head and it's hard to study.   :BangHead:

The weather has been lousy.  It poured rain and was windy the day before.  Yesterday rain mixed with snow and colder and the forecast for the rest of the week isn't looking real good.  Warmer but lots of rain.  Still hoping Friday is good enough for some yard work since I'm off school.

Another big test tomorrow so tonight is yet another nose to the books night.  I'll try to catch up with you on FB or elsewhere over the weekend for a more in depth talk.

Smile today.

That's so hard after working so many years.  I just found out I won't have my job after May.  I'm already praying for God's direction, as well.  I will pray for you, too.  Hang in there - hope things work out soon for you.  :)

Kim - praying for your test tomorrow.  Hope the weather improves before Friday!  "See" ya on FB!  :)

I am 66 years old currently living in Austin, TX.  I have a B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Urban Planning.  I work p.t. for a Market Research Company recruiting focus groups.

I am just re-learning to travel after many years of not traveling.   Travel is a whole new ball game.  I went to Las Vegas two years ago, Florida last year and I am going to Los Angeles this September.  I will be in Boston for my 50th high school reunion in 2012.

You certainly have your hands full.  I have 2 granddaughters ages 2 and 6 - they are nonstop busy!!  Your mother is very fortunate to have you be able to help her.  Just take care of yourself, too.  :)

Goodness, you are quite busy.  What kind of focus groups are you recruiting?  I'm kind of naive with what that entails.  My 35th high school reunion is this June.  It doesn't seem possible!!

I can relate with what you are going through.  I lost my job of 21 years Sept of 2009.  It was a job that paid well and that I loved but was outsourced to India.

You should be able to draw unemployment for some time and maybe even get some additional job training or go back to school.  My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Hi Boston Phil.  It's great that you are now able to travel a bit.  Enjoy.  I could use the Physhology portion of your degree.   :notworthy:

Without googling I'm not quite sure what urban planning consists of.  Care to elaborate?

Losing jobs

Judy, I just was rereading an earlier post and noticed that you said you would be losing your job in May.  Aren't you a teacher?  Are they cutting back?

Kim - praying for your test tomorrow.  Hope the weather improves before Friday!  "See" ya on FB!  :)

Kim, about my job, yes, unfortunately they are cutting back.  However this is in a private school.  Since I'm part-time and the one of the newest it affects me.  There are other reasons though that I know are the real truth.  Admin is coming in new, less qualified, and bringing a couple of friends in to the part-time positions.  I know things like that happen but it doesn't mean it's right. Thank you for asking.  Hope your test yesterday was great for you!  :)

You get what you pay for
« Reply #238 on: April 09, 2011, 02:44:24 am »
Judy,

What is happening to your job is what is happening across the nation.  They are bringing in less qualified people because they can get away with the least amount of pay.  My company was full of people that had been there since right after high school and many had 40 plus years but were still below retirement age when they lost their jobs.  In addition they had stopped paying in to our retirement plans 10 years before the layoff, relying mostly on the 401K benefits.

Our entire country is being reduced to 10-12 dollars an hour.  I saw it happening years ago when there was an influx of laborers from Mexico coming in and taking jobs for less money than our skilled laborers were making.  The problem with not making more than 10-12 an hour is that the economy isn't coming down in cost of living.

I've always said though too that we, as a nation, live far beyond our means.  We impulse buy and like to accumulate too much "stuff".  I'm guilty of the same problem at times but probably ten years ago, or more, I started practicing voluntary simplicity.  I attempted to cut back and pare down on many unnecessary items.  I used to collect knickknack types of things and my "stuff" was overtaking my life.  I've cut back enough though that I have no credit card debt and don't intend to have any in the future.  I'm frequent yard sales for everyday items I need and am always looking for a bargain.  My goal has never been to be rich but I intend to have enough to be comfortable and have my needs met.

If more people would adopt this lifestyle and would buy American made items we might all just get back to a comfort level again.  Just my humble opinion.

I do agree with you, Kim, and it's really a real shame the way things are going with jobs.  By doing these things with the jobs they are also bringing people in who need training and experience - this is normal.  However, there are many workers being moved up in higher positions who don't know enough about how everything works from the ground up in the company. Then you've got problems like on "Undercover Boss" where the higher ups demand more from the workers or short-change benefits.  They don't even know what's going on beneath them until they experience it themselves.  My hubby worked for the phone company for 35 years and was forced to retire when AT&T took over.  He started out as a phone operator and moved up to technician, then crew leader, then different levels of management. He was someone who the workers liked and got on with because he understood their job and worked with them in areas they had troubles with and gave praise when praise was due. The new management of today want the young ones in there who they can pay cheaper.  These newer younger bosses don't "know" the job and have no patience or understanding of what entails in the jobs beneath them. Therefore they are having problems.

I also agree about cutting back and also buying American made items.  We've gotten so much better because we had to - no ifs, ands, or buts, so-to-speak.

I am looking and researching into some of the sites you first discussed earlier in your blog.  There has to be something I can do that will help me, help my family, and yet be "health friendly" to my health issues currently being dealt with.  I appreciate the tips you gave back then.

Hope all is going okay with everything.  Keep up the hard work and the positive attitude that you share with us on here!!!

Julie   :)
