Really...I don't even smoke...!!!!!!!!!!!

I really need to rant for a second. I went to work this morning at a job that I've only had for about three weeks. When break time came my coworkers said "we have to leave." Well I in turn said "why whats wrong?" They were all like we have to go outside because the supervisors both smoke so we can't stay in the building without them.
Okay...I may be wrong in saying this but what the F#$%#&*#&% is going on here, ya know.
Since when is it right for me and the other nonsomkers to have to go out and sit in the cold (50 degrees and raining) just because they want to commit suicide!!!!

They smoke in the building?  Or they make everyone go outside to smoke?  Why can't you stay in the building without them?  This sounds ridiculous you need to complain?  Is it a small mom and pop type company?  I would not stand for that if I were you.  No way in hell and I following some smokers outside.  Why can't you stay where you are?  Something is not right.

I think thats wrong.  I have never heard of a job where they did not trust the employees to remain inside unattended unless it is a casino or place of high security.  I guess in this day and age with jobs being as scarce as they are that you will have to put up with it or maybe tell them how you feel and hope for the best.  Hang in there.

I never heard of anything like that before.  I'm a smoker and I would never do that to anyone.  I've heard of employees that didn't smoke complaining about how many breaks smokers get to take.

i don't get why the supervisors couldn't go out for their cancer sticks one at a time so that rest of the employees could remain in the office and working. i guess the cigarette smoke is clouding their common sense, not to mention common courtesy

I've never heard of that either, they should go outside to smoke. That's like what happened with me and the people who use to live here. I live in a duplex, in the top apartment, and you're not allowed to smoke inside. Says so in the lease. But our neighbors would constantly smoke inside. So because our places are connected the smoke would come up here and stink up our whole place. I have asthma and my bronchitis really acts up in the winter. Eventually they got kicked out after a year of dealing with it. Wow, sorry for the rant but I just don't have any tolerance for this stuff.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought it was against the law to smoke in any building.  There is no way I would stand in the cold or rainy weather just so some fool can kill themselves by smoking.  I think I would suggest to the boss that a room be opened for non smokers or report it.  I think that is ridiculous.

i think they should have to stagger the supervisors break time or provide a good environment for you to have your break - -this is crazy

From what I understand the building is a smoke free building. What they did was tell every one to vacate the building and go outside in the cold rainy weather while the supervisors went outside also to smoke.

I agree this is wrong. You should not be "punished" because you are not a smoker. I am a smoker but i respect others who dont.

   I agree with all others, that you shouldn't have to go out while they smoke.  They should be reminded of this when they wonder why the work turned in is behind the goal.  It sounds like they refuse to go on separate breaks for their own selfish reasons.  I hope this situation works out for you.

I just want to say thank you for all the support I have gotten from those who replied to my post, yall are great.
To answer some of your questions...we all had to go out while they smoked, noone is allowed inside without a supervisor, and I'm not afraid to say it was an Old Navy store. I have since told the store manager what happened and he is looking into it. So hold on cause it might get a little rocky...lol.

Way to go Jade. Sounds like store manager did not know what was going on. Besides my boy friend said it sounded like a lawsuit waiting to happen if you are made to go outside in the cold rain and you got sick and could not work
