Would you...?
« on: October 19, 2010, 11:07:09 am »
...Could you?

Would you be apprehensive about driving across this bridge?

  http://www.leviaducdemillau.com/english/divers/gallerie.html

The Millau Viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and

Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed.  The

tallest  is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the overall height is an impressive

336 meters (1102 feet),  making this the highest bridge in the world.  It is

taller than the Eiffel Tower ...Intriguingly, the Millau Viaduct is not straight.

A straight road could induce a sensation of floating for drivers, which a

slight curve remedies. The curve is 20 km in range.   Moreover, the road

has a light incline of 3% to improve the visibility and reassure the driver.

It is an amazing engineering feat!

But if you think about all the bridges that collapse... http://www.greatdreams.com/bridges/bridges.htm

hmm.. It would be so creepy driving across this! but a beautiful view!

That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

I don't think I'd be too scared to try it out. I hope I wouldn't panic when I got to the middle, though! I'm not afraid of heights, so I think I'd be fine. and if the bridge collapsed, well I guess it would be my time to go!

That looks scary and thrilling both! I'd have to think about going on that, unless there was no other way...

What a beautiful view!!  I could probably drive across it but I wouldn't be able to enjoy the view!  I would have to look straight ahead the whole time.

I'm pretty sure I could drive across that. Probably will never have the chance, but I think it would be kinda fun.

I would want to walk across it first to feel more familiar with it, if that was possible.  If not, sure, I would give it a shot...and then go right back across!

............
You can drive and walk across this bridge too. if you are ever in the San Diego area look for it off Interstate 15 at Lilac Rd. as the picture dosen't really do it justice, the span of that arch is over a total of 8 lanes of freeway (4 in each direction).  :notworthy:
