Why is going green so expensive??

  I don't get it why is going green so hard on the pocket book...I mean I wanna help the earth but I wow..It is really expensive to go green.That seems wacky..I mean some green cleaning products are three times what you pay for the other stuff when living on a budget going green seems like a far away dream..Why is something that helps the earth so darn expensive??

I've been wondering that too. I had been using Burt's Bees for a few years but made the switch last year to go (mostly) organic with what I use. Shampoo, soap, lotion, etc....I did find a site with a huge selection of natural products that are all marked down and ships for $4.99.

I think going green means lining someone else pocket book with the green stuff from my wallet.

My guess is they're probably more expensive for a couple reasons.  First, the ingredients in the "green" products are typically natural sources vs mass produced chemical sources - due to that, its supply/demand.  Only so much natural products so the end product will be more expensive to produce.

Second, due to "being green" at the current "it" thing, there's probably some products that are priced a little higher to capitalize on the masses trying to go green.

i completely agree with that.

i've not had the urge to jump on the "green" bandwagon,
but as far as food goes, i do like the idea of less chemicals
and i find myself reading labels more often these days.
it seems that these food products (with less crap in them)
are more expensive, and i just don't understand why. if
you're leaving out those ingredients, it seems like it would
HAVE to be cheaper.

but i guess the cost doesn't reflect the actual product -
it reflects the entire process of making the organic foods
and it goes back to who actually does that; not massive
coorperations who have constant funds backing them.

I actually completely agree with you...I have sworn off fast food because of all the junk that goes in them besides the fact that it is not good for you.  The sad thing is that you have to put some extra $$$ up just to buy the things that are actually good for you.  Just wish that this whole going "green" had kicked in years ago this way it wouldn't be so hard on the pockets today!

yeah it is so strange it is not about caring about the planet as it is how much green can I make I mean I would love to eat green and organic food but umm cant aford it with out cutting out something else important like health insurance ugh dont get me started on this LMAO

Yeah, it's because they know that the average person can't afford green products.  It's all about keeping us on toxic products and keeping us sick from them.   Diseases from toxicity abound, so that's more money to line the pockets of all those with pHARMaceutical interests.

This really gets me too. I care about my planet, but I just don't have enough green to go green! 

I try to buy organic produce from my local farmers, I try to buy environmentally safe cleaning products....but it just gets to be too much. It's expensive to care about what you put in your body, it's expensive to care about what you put in the earth. Just can't do it!

i wanted to get solar panels and i thought it might cost like around 2000 but when i called it was like 10,000 ....wow who could ever afford that

It is very pricey. I thought about getting solar panels, but for the amount of power we need it would cost 20-30k.

the way to beat the expense?? D.I.Y.
been doing it for years now.  
google DIY anything you want to turn "green" or "natural" etc.
white vinegar is still incredibly cheap and is a GREAT alternative for cleaning.  it can be mixed with things like lemon juice to help your laundry (and yes, I use it, and no one ever says anything to me about smelling like vinegar....because it washes out), or mix it with baking soda (look up the amount ratio) to clean out your drains.
obviously there may be some things one still needs to put initial outlay into...like the solar panels.
I will indeed do that when/if I ever own property.  
just sayin...there's always a solution, fairly cheap...with research and experimentation.  hope some of you can use the information.
