Marijuana should not be legalized!  Too much gang violence involves that drug.  Once you legalize marijuand, what's next?  Heroin, morphine, codone, etc..  Leave everything as is.  The only thing I would change is the punishment for having marijuana.  Less than an ounce, misdeameanor.  Do not put folks in our over crowded prisons.  Slap them on the hand and be done with it.
We gave rights to women and african americans. Whats next? Gay rights?

well if it was legal wouldnt that stop crime associated with it? if its legal its not a crime so statisticly crime would go down. I dont know why you say thats ignorance?  i got one word for that  PROHIBITION

PROHIBITION (1920–1933 R.I.P.) was known as The Noble Experiment. The results of the experiment are clear: innocent people suffered; organized crime grew into an empire; the police, courts, and politicians became increasingly corrupt; disrespect for the law grew; and the per capita consumption of the prohibited substance—alcohol—increased dramatically, year by year, for the thirteen years of this Noble Experiment, never to return to the pre-1920 levels.

I don't think it should be legal or illegal.  As someone posted earlier, it is a plant.  How do you legalize something that comes from the ground. If it comes from the earth it should be good for you. huh  Maybe we should look at it like a vegtable or like spinach is to popeye.....just sayin

Poison Ivy is good for you, go play in it.

Poison ivy is used in homeopathic treatment for skin ailments and arthritis

Absolutely! The more you tell someone they can't have something, the more they want it. If it was legalized it would help a lot of people with medical problems that don't have a prescription. Also, there are a ton of things that the hemp could be used for. Think of the extra revenue the US could have. ;D

No it wouldn't! Smoking it wouldn't be a crime if legal but selling and privately growing it most likely would be illegal. This will not take marijuana out of a drug dealers inventory. Not to mention the DUI's that people get from marijuana also!

but the end of prohibition took alcohol out of the hands of bootleggers for the most part and it lowered crime if i could buy weed legally and not from a dealer id buy it legally where they sold it and dui's are for dumb people who dont think straight anyway   not everyone smokes and/or drinks and drives thier car, if its legal or not your still gonna get the dui's

LOL and just how do you think they would test for a DUI with pot? make you pee in a cup on the side of a road? or perhaps let police have access to needles and teach them how to draw blood? Or maybe the expensive cost of hair folical tests.  This wouldn't be very feasible as any drug test can detect THC in the system 30 days back.  They couldn't arrest someone for a DUI as you put it based on a test that proved they smoked weed up to 30 days ago.  Not to mention the cost of drug testing.  I know quite a few people that smoke on a regular basis and never have any of them displayed behavior similar to a drunk.  For a seasoned smoker, most you wouldn't even be able to tell they smoked.  Example my hubby, he would probably be classified as a heavy smoker.  He worked at a job for 3.5 years and even left work on his lunch hour and smoked with friends sometimes (don't get me wrong I don't condone this we fought many a time about him doing this) but back to my point.  He was high at work quite often and NO ONE but his close friends that he smoked with had any idea that he was a smoker until he failed (miserably I might add) a random drug test three years later.  My point is all drugs react differently in different people, even with alcohol some people are lightweights and are drunk after one drink even though they could probably pass a breathalyzer.  Does weed alter a persons perception and ability to drive in some people I would imagine yes, but in some people it actually helps them to focus and calms them.  I just don't see how testing for DUI of weed would be feasible, or any arrest based on said test.  Its not illegal to be high its illegal to be in possession and sell and drive while under the influence.

WOW! Do you seriously believe it is not illegal to be high? That is pretty silly in itself.
And DUI's happen all the time and no they don't need to give you a *bleep* or blood test right on the spot. It is not hard to tell if some are under the influence, if they do in a traffic stop they will be detained were a test will be preformed. CommonSense!
What about those that are in a serious accident that killed someone are those not classifies as a DUI and have theny not commited an illegal act but driving under the influence of a drug. They have and will arrest someone for it, pretty ignorant to think otherwise.

Anyone that smokes during their lunch break is an idiot and deserved to lose their job.

Who said anything about loosing their job.  If you were referring to my example he didn't lose his job not everyone thinks as narrow minded as you they realized that he was what he is a great worker who never called off work while all the others called off at least once a week.  Gee I guess pot doesn't make everyone lazy.. But really what happened as a result of that test is honestly none of your business. It was used as an example not for you to act all high and mighty and judge him and insult him.  Like I said I don't nor have I ever condoned his smoking away from work on his lunch hour, but he is his own person he makes his own choices and who are you to call him an idiot just because you think he did something stupid.  I am sure you have never done anything stupid in your life... I don't expect you to understand that though as you have proven over and over in this thread that you the subject only one way and everyone else is wrong.  You have shown over and over you really have no clue what weed does to a person as you seem to think its a horrific narcotic that even compares to the effects of alcohol.  And you honestly don't know anything about the law and what is legal or not laws differ from state to state.  Where we live people are not arrested for appearing to be high.  You have to be in possession or intent to sell, or trafficking or possession of paraphernalia.   You totally missed my point on the testing for said drugs.  It wouldn't be feasible to make a DUI arrest based on a test that showed said person could have smoked a joint 3 weeks ago when they obviously are not still under the influence three weeks later.  I am not arguing that its right to drive under the influence of ANYTHING or that its legal just that proving it would be very difficult on the spot.  Not really sure how this even pertains to the issue legalized or not..because people are still going to drive under the influence legal or not just like people that smoke are going to continue smoke legal or not.

You totally missed my point on the testing for said drugs.  It wouldn't be feasible to make a DUI arrest based on a test that showed said person could have smoked a joint 3 weeks ago when they obviously are not still under the influence three weeks later.

If a cop stops anyone, notices they have constricted pupils, appear very relaxed, smell no alcohol, notice the person is not passing field sobriety test related to physical movement quite the way they should, and suspect said person is under the influence of something, they can arrest and detain them under the guidelines of 'reasonable suspicion'. They can then do an instant urine test, which you are not correct on as far as the interpretation of it. A person who smoked one time 3 weeks ago is going to show a MUCH lower level, which is measured in nanograms, than someone who WAS high at the time. A daily user will also show a high level due to buildup, even if they did NOT just smoke, but the results will still show as different and will indicate chronic use vs 'just used'. It is ridiculous that you even wrote that because it clearly shows you have NO concept of drug testing and how it works. There is also an instant saliva test which immediately shows residue from marijuana (along with almost every drug out there including alcohol) and those are used both by law enforcement and by hospital personnel after an accident involving anyone thought to be under the influence of marijuana - forget about the alcohol or any other drugs here. If those show up in any test, it is a different ballgame.

That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.
