Police Injustice...
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:57:53 pm »
I'm sure everyone remember the group "N.W.A.". I'm sure you remember their infamous soung "*bleep* The Police".
Everyone was all like "they said *bleep* the police? how could they say that about people who protect us?", Then people realized why they were saying that. "black" people were being treated very badly based on their color, and that was what that song was about.
Well.... For the past year - up until a few months ago, when i moved in with my girlfriend - I lived in south central, just a few blocks from the projects. in my neighbor hood police did A LOT of racial profiling. I can remember several occasions where me and my friends would be in a car and get pulled over for a tail light being out - or something of that nature - and the police would immediately treat us like criminals, they'll want to search us, they'll want to search the car, and if you say "no i don't think you need to search" they would immediately consider that probable cause. Well , police are here to defend the public and the constitution. But the first thing they do is break it. Do police get extra money for busting people?
I'm not speaking of all police officers but few have shown me otherwise.
What are your thoughts on police corruption?

I'm sure its just like any other job out there. There are d*ckwads in every field of work. Police are probably one of the most prominent because of their relations with the public.

I know. Toda police are so antagonistic. I just wish they would all do their jobs and leave all that antagonistic behavior at home.

Unfortunately we have a few police officers on our local police force that have "god complex" as one of the better police officers on the force calls it.  I got pulled over by one of them last may.  This guy was a total *bleep*.  He claimed I was speeding but it was on a rural highway coming into town right where the speed limit changes and I was slowing down as I came up to the sign marking the 35.  Now mind you I am driving a minivan with a kid in a car seat in the back and my hubby in the  passenger seat who swears I was not speeding either.  He goes back to his cruiser runs my record.. comes back and says well...I checked your record and since you had a speeding ticket 10 years ago I am not going to give you a warning like I had planned..... I just stared at him dumbfounded at what he said lol.  10 years I went with no violations no accidents no arrests but because ten years ago  I was going 5 over the speed limit on a major highway in my sports car that I got rid of since we had our daughter I had to pay 150.00.  Recently there have been a lot of complaints about some of these officers damaging cars when searching them for no apparent reason.  My mother in law was telling us about an elderly lady in her 80's that was pulled over and forced out of her vehicle why they searched for drugs... they tore the crap outta her interior he daughter had to sue the department for the repairs.  They pulled me over another night just after I had dropped off my hubby at work because someone in a similar vehicle had drove off without paying for gas at the truck stop.   Good thing it was almost payday and we were almost on empty LOL.

My thoughts on corrupt police:
They make me sick!  :angry7:  but how can you stop the corruption? .......

In this small town that I grew up in (for a few years) they would always harrass us. If you were in the wrong neighborhood, or part of town, or with someone with a certain last name, or you looked a certain way, they would pull you over and search you every time, didn't matter if you did anything wrong or not, they would laugh, and they enjoyed it. It got so bad, that a lot of people started complaining. the cops weren't helping people, or protecting them, they were harrassing the innocent ones while the bad ones were left alone to corrupt more youth. *Long story short* Finally, the people complained enough, that a lot of cops "involved" were busted. It was pretty twisted  :angry7:
That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

Legally a police officer HAS NO RIGHT to search a vehicle without a warrant. Unless they see drugs in the open.
And yes MANY MANY cops are corrupted but their are a few with good morals.

I can't speak for where you live, but they can search without a warrant here. There are many neighborhoods labeled/designated as 'known drug trafficking' areas. If you are pulled over in any of these and there is the slightest thing fishy, such as a late hour, NOT living in the neighborhood, etc., you CAN and WILL have your vehicle searched if they feel like it. It is no different than prior notification of DUI stops and roadblocks. They notify ahead of time where and when they will be, so if you decide to drive up on one, your butts in a sling if they stop you and there is any cause for suspicion. I am not saying I completely agree with it, but as far as the drug areas, it has put a lot of people behind bars. We have our share of cops who are total idiots about everything, but I also would NOT want to have my life on the line out there. I've lost count of how many officers have been seriously injured, disabled, and even killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

First you have to look at it from both views.

If you were a police officer in LA how would you approach anyone prior to a stop. Being black I don't see anything wrong with racial profiling as long as the officer abids by the law in questioning. Being in a bad neighborhood, dressing like a hood and having suspicious behavior is enough for for me.

You have to remember they come across the worst scum out there and always put their lives on the line.

But yes there are some bad ones in every bunch.

Not at all. Seriously you need to look at both veiws before you lump ALL of law enforcement officials into your profiling!

I knew i should hve put this in from he start, Im not speaking of ALL officers. There are plenty that do their job right. but you thnk racial profiling's okay? and it's not abiding by the law to base suspison on race, how somone dresses, or where they live.

we could be wrong either way. alot of people dont trust the police because of someone in that force is also doing bad things too.

some policemen or police women can be a bad figure as well. so yeah maybe someone like us is holding a grudge against them.

Thats where you are wrong! It is prefectly fine to profile anyone if they are being suspicious or in suspicious surroundings. Wherethere the police act cautiously or just flat out treat you like a criminal is what defines them as being law abidding.
If you think no law enforcement offical profiles then you are living in a cave.

you obviously didn't read my post. They ARE flat out treating people like criminals. and i can't belive you are sitting here trying to justify racial profiling. being "black" or any other race or dressing a certain way does NOT constitute reasonable suspision.
