Polygamy
« on: September 13, 2010, 08:03:15 pm »
Do you think Polygamy is bad? Shouldn't we have the right to marry as many people as we want? Why is it wrong? If gay people can marry than why not just allow people to have multiple husbands and wifes? Is it hurting anyone?

I myself would not want my husband to have multiple wives. But some people don't care, so if thats what they want, its their decision.

Well Dawn, what if you didn't want your husband to have multiple wives but he wanted them? With polygamy, you don't have a say so. Your husband will just do what he wants.

Polygamy is not for me. I couldn't bear having my husband sleeping with some other woman on one night and then coming over another night wanting to be with me. It wouldn't matter if he told me that I am his favorite or not. It's something I would never go for at all. Can you imagine all the fighting this must cause in a household where there is polygamy? Think about it, if a man can't handle one woman's attitude what makes you think he can handle 20. It's not fair and there's no way that he can give all of them his undivided attention at once. There's this series on HBO called "Big Love" that is about Polygamy and they go through a lot of drama on that show. If you've never heard of the show you can watch it to get an idea.

I'm with ya on this one. NO WAY IN H*LL!  :angry7:   lol...
That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

Well, I meant if both sides agree to it.

Me too!  There is no room in our socity for Polygamy, period.  Remember the Ten Commandments, "Thou shall not covenant your neigbors wife".  If you are a true Catholic, this is a mortal sin.  No room in heaven for a Polygamist.

I do not understand what gay marriage has to do with polygamy?
And yes I personally think it is a bad choice of life.

There is a difference between polygamy and polyamory...I agree with neither one.  I've seen some, for lack of better words, groups where they all had sex with each other and it just doesn't seem right to me.  When you are with someone, that should be it...just the one person.  I don't see anything but pain for those involved with any poly relationships.

Gay marriage has nothing to do with poly relationships.  You fall in love with people, not genders.  Without reverting to your religious beliefs, how is a male/male or female/female couple that is monogamous equated to a polyamourous relationship?  That is a weak argument IMO.  That is like comparing monogamous homosexual couples with bestiality...and its wrong.
