Insomnia
« on: September 12, 2010, 04:43:02 am »
I really have a huge issue with insomnia,it's an issue that has affected me since I was younger.
For some reason I have not found anything that truly helps me get sleep.
I have taken medications, I have exercised or attempted to tire myself out, and a few other things.
It's so bad I have sat here for 2 hours reading posts on the forum and exercising in between in hopes to get tired.

Anyone have any methods that might work? I get maybe 3-4 hours a sleep if I am lucky

I developed insomnia in 1975 and I gave not had one normal sleep since. It has really impacted my life.  One thing that helped was hypnotherapy. I have tried meditation and that helps once in a while. Have you seen a doctor?  I do paid sleep studies.  They pay me very well to test sleep aids for FDA approval. Sometimes the meds help but more often they don't. But I am paid well and the money helps.  :BangHead:

Yes I have been to a doctor, but everything he prescribed failed.
It seems nothing is working and I have cancer so I can't do any trial treatments for new meds or therapy.
I guess I shall continue to sit on MW2 on my Ps3 at 4 in the morning trying to get tired lol.

http://help-me-to-sleep.com

this seems to have a great amount of information.  hope something in there helps you.  I don't sleep for crap either and have just had to learn to work around it.  doing some new meds (not sleeping pills) to change other physical symptoms that aggravate my not sleeping.  good thoughts and hope there's something you can find to shift things.

I believe insominia is more of a problem than most would believe. I have had it for about 15 years now. Usually I have found once I am up two or three days in a roll then I can get a good nights sleep. Like last nght I was up all day yesterday and all night last night and I start my new job today so am hoping for the best. Medications never do much good for me. One thing I was told about that might help is to eat a tablespoon of unprocessed honey before going to bed. Have not tried that yet though.

Insomnia is a HUGE problem.   I am a disabled person because of my insomnia but the powers that be do not recognize insomnia as a disability so I have never gotten the help that I should have gotten.   When you can not sleep, the best thing to do is get up and do something that helps relax you like working on a computer or watching something you enjoy on TV.   Remember to do something that relaxes you and does not stimulate your brain.    :BangHead:  This is how I feel when I can not sleep.   :BangHead:   Maybe we can continue this insomnia blog on FC.

Do not take any medications unless you are sick because most of the time mediations do not work. Many people are insomniacs. I usually watch TV or do other things: Sort laundry, do list of things to do today, organize mail, read a magazine, do other things...until I am sleepy. It really works!

One of the best Methods for Insomnia is to pop a Benadryl. Another is to do Hardcore sports like Soccer. I too have Insomnia and playing a game of Soccer wears me out and helps me sleep Hope this helps!

Beware of Benedryl. I'm an insomniac, and it kept me up all night. Try Trazadone.

Insomnia is no fun I usualy go three t seven days no sleep straight then get one good day or night of sleep then back to no sleep. Although I did actually sleep better the three weeks my man and I spent together.

Believe me I go beyond my limits to make myself get tired. I have twin daughters age 3 and a 1 year old keeping me going throughout the whole day.
Not to mention I cook, clean, work from home sometimes since I can't be away from home to much due to illness my boss allows me to bring work home, and I exercise.
I don't do intense exercise due to my health issues, but I do enough to keep me active and feeling energetic.

I have cancer and I usually feel tired after chemo but my mind won't shut down it keeps going all day. I have taken the medications nothing works, I have done at home remedies that doesn't work, I sit at odd hours of the night doing extra detail cleaning, playing video games, excerise, watch tv, read a book, and it all seems to fail.
I have dark cycles under my eyes and have since I was probably 12 or 13. So it's been a long term issue of no sleep. Hmm wonder what else I can try...

Yes, even though I am sick I work, imagine how much it costs to be sick... I have sponsors and health insurance but it doesn't cover everything so I do my part to help with the high cost of trial treatments and medications.
So I do simple work to add extra income nothing over stressing.

So anyways, yup I have plenty of reasons to be tired and to just pass out but I simply can't.

Things that work for one person won't necessarily work for another. It's all the chemicals going crazy in your brain that are keeping you awake. I have a mental condition, and it leads me to have major mind racing. I absolutely cannot sleep without my medication. I'm on a new type of med that just came out not too long ago. It's one of very few that you have to let dissolve under your tongue. It bypasses all the organs that can break it down and gets straight into the bloodstream. It's not made to help you sleep better, but one of the side effects is somnolence. Needless to say, it knocks me out almost instantly. I even sleep through my hubby's alarm clock going off. I don't even hear it! The best part is that I don't feel groggy in the morning when I wake up!

I wish I could give you some advice .... I can relate but have not found anything that will help.  I have tried benadryl and it will work but makes me feel horrible the next day.  I occasionally take an ativan and that will help but I would like to fall asleep without medication.  I wasn't aware there were so many people that had the same problem.
