High School Dress Codes
« on: September 10, 2010, 11:35:00 am »
Hey I am having this problem with the high school dress code around here. In the city I live in there area quite a bit of high schools and the dress codes varies from high school to high school. The city wide dress code is that students must have a collared shirt or blouse or dress, the dresses or short must not be more than 3 inches above their knees.

At the school my daughter goes to is the dress code is supposed to be what the city wide code, the principle tells them that they could wear college shirts with out collars. Well some days my daughter goes to the school with out a collar, and it's OK and then someday she goes to school with a college shirt and it's OK. Now all of a sudden she is at school with a college shirt and she is suspended for not conforming to the dress code.

I go to the school and see other students walking around and with no collar shirts, and some walking around with college shirts, a girl had on a sun dress with her chest out. But no, my daughter is suspended for three days, she is a senior in high school all AP classes a good student. My daughter protested to the principle that they are keeping her from her education, just all because they want a collar on a shirt. So they did not like that at all she is suspended and the other children can walk around with out a collar shirt or wearing college shirts.

What is the dress code at the high school in your city or town? Do you think children should be able to wear college shirts or blouses to school?  :peace:

There is two sides to every story. I would like to hear the School's side to this story.

I've been out of high school for years but our dress code was pretty laid back, just no spaghetti strap tanks, stand up start fingers down that's where your skirt, dresses, shorts should be, no hats etc.  HOWEVER my sister is a senior and they cannot wear solid red, solid blue, solid green, anything with the numbers 13, 31 and like six other numbers, no hats, etc it is crazy!

in my last year of high school, they decided that shorts/skirts could be no shorter than 3 inches higher than the knee when the student was kneeling.  and yes, indeed, they hauled plenty of students down to the office, made them kneel, measured, and were absolutely immediately sent home if they had not complied and dressed appropriately.
this was 1986-87.

You are right there are other sides to a story really 3, your side , the other side and the truth.

Well the school said the college shirt was not in dress code, I notified the school board and have not gotten an answer as of yet. This happened on a Friday and my daughter is in the band, she was not sent home, she stayed in something they call OCI, which is an Inhouse suspension they are suppose to get their work for all their classes and do the work, but she never received the work. Anyway if a student is suspended they are not to participate in any after school activities. That night they had a football game, they lost, but she was permitted to play in the band, and the principle actually spoke to her and told her she was doing a good job int he band. I asked one of the band members what did he say to her and that is what they said. We are confused but the story continues on, we will see what will happen on Monday.    :peace:
