don't go out on dates.  Hanging out at home and watching TV in order to save dough is fine  , but if you do the same thing every night, you'll both get bored  .  While that doesn't sound like a crucial misstep, it can screw up your love  .  As a couple, you have to do new activities to maintain that romantic buzz.  Experiencing novel things triggers the release of two important brain chemicals - dopamine and norepinephrine - which are the same ones released when you first fall in love.  You don't have to go to a five star dinner to get the thrill, just pick something that's not part of your regular routine.

so true... between the lack of $$ and the stress of jobs and raising families it is hard to find time to get away.
try to find the little things that keep the spark and that you can truly share with each other is the key.

Yesterday by boyfriend took me out to eat and gave me two presents for no reason at all. One of them was something practical that I'll use most every day, and the other was a really gorgeous necklace.

Getting each other little presents once in a while for no reason is such a good idea. It doesn't even have to be expensive.. Heck, you don't even have to buy it, you can make one!

    Occasionally we will go to either a motel or an inn for the weekend.  Then we'll just tour the shops and sights.  That's always refreshing.  We don't always buy from the shops (if we broke ourselves on the motel) but have fun.

Sometimes we'll have a few people over, or we'll go over to their place, and have pizza, chicken, etc.

We also like to put some rainy day money aside for things like bowling, movies, even trying things we haven't done before: like horseback riding.  We live in just enough country that there are several farms surrounding us that own horses and help us to make everyone laugh as we make fools of ourselves!  But, we have fun!

we used to go to a hotel sometimes just to get away -- but now we have a 3 year old.... a bit more tricky to find peace in this activity

Right on hon!  I am glad you brought this subject up.  It made me think of when my wife and I have been out.  I hate to admit it, but its been a long time.  Perhaps I'll take to a nice place to eat and then a movie.  On second thought, a movie first, then dinner.  Otherwise, I would fall asleep in the theater.  Thanks for the good reminder.

Our get away fun is to a race track to watch Nascar or Drag racing

We spend time together by playing video games in separate rooms on headsets, he'll run into the room to tickle me when I whoop his butt or outshine him! lol We have a very unconventional way of spending time together.

I agree you need to keep things fresh and exciting. Taking trips together is a great way to do this because it is a change of pace and scene.

I totally agree, although my boyfriend and I do not have any kids, we are both very busy and have a hard time actually going out and doing things. I just love spending anytime i can with him, but yes at times it does get boring when all we do is sit around at home

BBQ at home for your man

Go to the zoo

Go shopping together have him pick out lingerie for you

We go to church -- our church has no place for the kiddo's to go
We have NO family within 2000 miles of where we live
We do the BBQ and local zoo type things ocassioinally

Another idea is if you have a drive in near by. Go to the late show that way the baby will fall asleep retty quick and it would basically be just the two of you.
