Censorship....
« on: September 02, 2010, 08:51:19 am »
I am so against censorship...Why should things be stifled?? could it be fear off..Why do parents flip out over the most trivial things their kids may see or hear?? I have three beautiful babies and I do not censor them or what they hear or see..now do not go all crazy and think I am stupid and they know things not age appropriate I am responsible..If you raise a child blinded and fearful you get a mess sometime in the life..You raise a open smart uncensored child I see a more rounded and stable human..Thats my opinion..I guess the tv post got me started..

It angers me at times when I get looks for eminem in my car or home around my kids..Come on give me a break..I understand he is so called obscene to some but gee get a sense of humor..I do not like country but I would never try to censor someone from liking it..

I really think people need to chill out and if they do not like it fine. But don't judge me for enjoying it and don't try to take it from me..

So where do you stand on censorship and why??

Well said Marie...I protect my kids but not over protect..They must learn as I did but learn with guidance not a blindfold..My kids swear at home on swear days and well they see how uneducated and stupid it looks and sounds so they chose to not use it when angry or outside of home....I have taped them and shown them how they look and well it took the whole idea of swearing to a level I think is good..

There have actually been studies where swearing can be helpful if not used a lot. Like if you stub your toe, saying the F word will actually lessen the pain. Those that swear when hurt have a higher pain tolerance.

ROTFLMAO then my tolerance should be off the charts

Censorship will allow some swear words, but not others. I don't understand this, either allow all or none. I watched an episode of American Chopper and there was an argument between father and son. It was kinda difficult to hear what was being said because of the many bleeps.

You can't completely shelter children in this day and age. To try would be to isolate them completely from the outside world. I believe in censorship to a point. We don't use curse words in our home, so I monitor what my kids watch on tv.

I can handle a curse word here and there but when every other word is F this and F that and basically every adjective in the conversation is a curse word, I literally get a headache. I think using foul language shows a lack of decorum, etiquette, and class.

I think stubbing your toe and letting an expletive slip is one thing, but it's another to use the language in everyday casual conversation. Also, my children don't need to hear about sex from anyone but me and their dad. So censorship is important when it comes to age appropriate information. It's bad when you are censoring someones right to free speech.

I definitely agree!!
That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into in the first place.

I never thought swearing was stupid...taping me would of never worked...swearing is more like showing you are serious or mad....swearing is like using powerful words.

Power in words are only there if you allow it..

People who curse to get a point across don't sound powerful to me. They sound ignorant.

There isn't an intelligent way to use them. There is a reason that most places of business do not allow cursing....it looks bad to customers and it's unprofessional. There is a reason that a judge will not allow cursing in a courtroom, it is considered disrespectful. When you can find an entertaining and impactful word to replace the curse word...that shows intelligence. In my opinion anyway.

Although I do not believe in censorship , I do believe that swearing at someone is a lack of respect for that person. If your children hear this they also see nothing wrong with this speech. Secondly my children started swearing when they went to kindergarten because the older chilren used profanity in every other word in their conversation. No we cannot censor everything our children might hear or see but the moral values you teach them will stay with them for their whole life.
