Treadmill vs Weight Lifting to Burn Fat
« on: August 31, 2010, 06:02:05 pm »
Anyone into burning calories?
I myself go to 24hour fitness about 3 - 4 days a week...mainly to burn fat but toning up is a good thing.

I don’t pay attention to burning calories as I have never been obsessed with it. I delegate my own dietary habits which have enabled me to have more energy when needed. I’ve done treadmill, stairmaster climb and bicycling at a gym. I have never tried lifting weights. My favorite alternative without paying gym membership fee is to avoid driving, take a walk in the neighborhood and hike in the mountainscity parks 2-3 times a week. I prefer to get some sun and interact with nature outdoors than to be confined in a gym. Gyms are boring for me.  :)

veggies and fresh fruits are great and first on my list as good eats as well! ;D
i try to avoid processed foods or keep to a minimum.
carnivorous, i am with a preference to seafood and chicken. nuts can be a weakness for me so opt for lower fat protein substitutes like beans sometimes.

i would be easily bored with the gym if i only worked cardio equipment but since i enjoy lifting weights and being around positive people who share that interest is what really matters. outdoor workouts are cool but if there is an inclement weather condition or as during the summer here...100 degrees outside and high humidity, it's not wise or healthy to workout then.  also, being mindful of metabolism (or burning calories) isn't an obsession but recognizing that consuming more than you burn will eventually catch up with you in an unhealthy way externally and/or even internally.

the beauty of living and life are the choices we have that promote health. i choose to incorporate activities that are suitable for me at given times and seasons.

to good health!

Thanks for providing the explanation of the importance of burning calories. I’m glad for you have found something you truly enjoy and what works for you. I find that I get a bigger workout when I am outdoors. I don’t mind the heat, which is why I carry at least one or more liters of water with me. The CA weather is always wonderful. Even when it is 100 degrees outside in the afternoon, I usually wait until the heat subside in the late afternoon, or start out in the early morning.  :)

I think that a treadmill is a better wat to burn the fat off.  Weights just tone the muscle. :bunny:

actually weights burn fat off for a couple days and the tread for just a few hours. i've experienced success with both but weights burn fat faster. building muscles burn fat...  any kind of exercise is better than being sedentary.   i'm all cheers for toning & keeping the love handles under control and choosing the exercise program that produces the results you want...

Weights dont burn fat, they actually turn fat into muscles. To lose weight I believe the best thing is to run, but to build muscles definitely weights.

i'm not going to argue the point but i've personally benefited.  researching the subject is definitely informative

In a study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
(58:561-565), "Muscle Hypertrophy With Large Scale Weight Loss and
Resistance Training," subjects took off fat while gaining muscle.

still not convinced? try it, it may work for you as well.
