I thought Blues Clues was so cool because they sort of challenged the whole idea of "THIS is for boys; THAT is for girls".
I mean, Blue - who is blue in color (usually a 'boy' color) - is a girl. There should never, ever be gender specification pushed on children at too young an age to care.

sigh...the days of boy and girl cartoons are long past.  I get the same thing from my family my daughter loves anything car or train or even transformers related and she will watch cartoons that are more boy oriented as people would say. Her boy cousin loves Dora but not Diego.  My daughter loves Diego but not Dora so much.  Her absolute favorite cartoon is Thomas the train and yes she has several Thomas toys and I would do a Thomas the train themed party in a second for her despite what family think.  If its what your daughter likes that's whats important its her birthday.  The point is to make her happy on her day.

do the caillou theme. my daughter is also 2 and we had a sesame street theme for her birthday. i was at walmart buying an elmo bedding set and an ernie doll for her gifts and the cashier said "oh your little boy is just going to love this" why should someone just assume it was for a boy? my daughter's favorite characters happen to be ernie and elmo, and its not my fault that all the ernie stuff is "boy stuff" if your daughter like caillou, giver her caillou because thats what her birthday is about, making her happy

She's your daughter...do what you think is best.

My daughter's second birthday is in two weeks, and we decided not to do a party for her, to the chagrin of my in laws.  They are up in arms, and we decided to go to the aquarium instead.  She'll enjoy seeing the fish and penguins more than having a huge birthday blowout, and she probably won't remember either anyway.
