It is absolutely IGNORANT for anyone to claim that Muslims don't believe people who don't believe how they believe don't deserve to be here. THAT IS PART OF THEIR RELIGION. If they are so peaceful, then where were the peaceful ones during 9/11 apologizing or taking a stand against those abusing their religion? They weren't because THEY ARE RAISED TO HATE AMERICANS. American Muslims raised here may not be bred that way, but that's how they ae bred there. THERE'S NO GETTING AROUND IT. They teach them Americans are evil like we learn the alphabet. Yes, from that early of an age. It's sad but true. I wish I remembered to save a great e-mail I got where a Muslim LEADER was speaking at an event where a few leaders of other religions were as well. The Christian one point black asked him, so our God teaches us to love those who don't follow our religion and your allah teaches you to persecute them? And he flat out answered yes. THAT IS NOT OKAY. Inviting an attack is letting Muslims do whatever the heck they want just because we don't want to step on their toes. Since they care so much about stepping on ours. If they did they wouldn't even propose the ludicrous idea to build a mosque by ground zero. Absolutely unnecessary controversy. There is NO REASON that mosque has to be built there and it's only going to stir up more crap, start more feuds, and end in another attack. BUT AS LONG AS AMERICANS ARE GETTING ATTACKED IT'S OKAY RIGHT? BECAUSE ITS NOT MUSLIMS?
WROOOOONG.
I am coming from much the same place as amyrouse in her saying: ”I don’t have an issue with people who don’t agree with me. I just take issue with those who don’t attempt to see the other side.” I have not decided if the mosque/community center in NYC should be built or not. As Falconer said, it’s not my call. However, when I see paragraphs such as your’s that exude ‘Islamophobia’, I have to speak up.
How can you possibly make a statement that says, in part, “then where were the peaceful ones during 9/11 apologizing or taking a stand against those abusing their religion?” You know this, for a fact, there were
none apologizing or taking a stand against this? You lived this directly and have personal experience to back it up? How old were you when 9/11 happened - 10 years old? You were living in Texas and I highly doubt you can say you were working with any Muslims in New York, Washington, or Philadelphia. How much exposure did you actually have to Muslims or their families on that day. Heck, how much do you even have today? Passionate statements are great, but not when they are born of ignorance, and that one is.
If you are aware of them, do you believe that all the large mosques and prayer centers that went up in large cities across the country after 9/11 should have been stopped from being constructed? Do you believe the Pentagon Prayer Center built in 2002 not 100 yards from where Flight 77 slammed into the building should never have been built? After all, it is used by Muslim Pentagon workers for their daily prayer. Speaking of the Pentagon and military personnel, do you realize that in the US Army alone there are 1,977 active duty Muslims, almost 500 National Guardsmen, and just over 600 Muslim Army Reservists? Perhaps we should boot them out - how could they be on our side, just because they serve for us? Yes, before it is said, I know about the Fort Hood shootings by a Muslim psychiatrist.
Do you know that an estimated 300 Muslim Americans also died that day? I am NOT referring to anyone on the planes in charge or participating in this, but will include the Muslim passengers on those planes. Along with Muslims who worked in the Twin Towers in varying capacities, as Emergency Responders on the scene, taxi drivers, restaurant workers, etc. They lost their lives and their families lost loved ones that day. Do you NOT think THEY mourned? It does NOT make up for what happened, but MANY Muslims who had nothing to do with that day were attacked, maimed, and killed. Did/do they deserve that? Not in my opinion.
At the time of 9/11, I was working in one of the largest, most respected hospitals in this country and I still am. On that day, and for months after, I saw Muslim doctors, nurses, techs, administrators - every job performed in a hospital, crying like babies over what had occurred. Most walked with their heads down in shame. There was, after all, NO way to get away from it because it was everywhere in our daily lives for every one of us who live in this country. You have no idea the shame and remorse that was felt and voiced by these people. Some took time off because they could not handle being there and being looked at by certain people, including patients. Brilliant doctors actually handed over any cases and surgeries they could for awhile because they felt no one would want to even be touched by them. Ours was not the only hospital to go through this either. I can speak only from my experience, but I am quite sure there were workers across the board in almost every job and every workplace in America who went through much the same thing.
There is a lot more I could say about this, but that’s enough for now - my heart is pounding just writing this.
