They haven't been quite as bad here this year and I have no idea why since we have had some very rainy periods. I always treat my yard with a non-toxic (because of my dogs) spray before, during, and at the end of the spring/summer so I think that helps. I also try to make sure I don't give them any breeding grounds like plant saucers, grandkids outdoor toys, or anything that holds rainwater. I dump them out to get rid of it.
They absolutely love me too and my bites get huge also! The females are the only ones who bite because they need the blood to fertilize eggs. The thing that attracts them
the most is how much carbon dioxide you give off - I know it sounds weird, but it's true. Some of us, and again for some reason it is mainly females, have a metabolism that gives off more CO2 so they love us. Since they are also nectar feeders, they love any kind of perfume, fabric softener smell, hair products, etc. that have sweetness to them and they love bacteria. So, clean, not clean, groomed or ungroomed, they are going to find the people they like!
