Dog vs Cat
« on: July 08, 2010, 05:58:28 pm »
 :dog: vs  :cat:

I have found it to be the general idea that women prefer cats and men prefer dogs.  I'm interested to know how true this is, I have met some people who are exceptions to that idea but it still seems to be the stereotypical idea...i.e. a dog is a man's best friend...and also its depicted that fat lonely girls have cats.

I personally DO prefer cats. I have owned a couple of dogs in my childhood. I'm thinking of getting a pup for my 3yr old son to play with but I don't like the smell of dogs really.

But do yall think??? Do men prefer dogs and women prefer cats?

I definately do believe that stereotype exists and I don't think it's bad at all. I'm definately a dog person. They're always so happy to see you and such. I've witnessed such happiness and loyalty from them. Those are the reasons why I prefer them. Cats? Besides purring, playing with string, and feeling fluffy, they own you!

A cat lives with me and I enjoy the fact that it is not as needy as a dog. Sure it'll come over on occasion for some petting but most often he does his thing and I do mine.....works for me.

I am thinking about getting a pup though but he will deffinitely be a working dog......no free rides here.

The cat with no name is my exterminator lol.

I am a female who goes against the 'rule'. I have had a couple cats good enough to allow me to live with them, but am and always have been a dog person. I am not a fan of ankle biters (small dogs) for myself, but still like them. I have had multiple dogs for as long as I can remember. Right now I have a husky, and 2 labradors, a black and a chocolate. Their food and 'maintenance' takes quite a bit of $$$, but if you own animals you have to be willing to pay the vet bills, etc. to keep them healthy or you have NO business owning them. I am the only human in the house and could not ask for better companions, but I do worry when I am talking to the computer screen (while on the Forums ;D) that they are plotting as to which institution to put me in...... 8)

i agree with you jordan about not keeping animals if you can't keep them healthy. my cat is a little fighter and we have had to have his eye removed from a fight he had and he has had countless stitches. we had him fixed as a kitten so i don't know what his prob is! but he has more medical bills than we do!!! LOL

at one point i was thinking i really wanted an old english shephard but i don't know if i could handle the coat maintenance on that thing!

I know it's hard enough to keep my labs 'groomed' because of the thick double coat/undercoat, I can't even imagine an Old English sheepdog! As soon as warm weather hits, I start filling bags up with fur after their brushings. The husky isn't as bad. A little off topic, but if you ever have a problem with birds nesting in a hanging flower basket, just put some dog hair in periodically and it will keep them from nesting in them. I love birds, but have had problems when they lay their eggs, are guarding the nests, and I have to water my plants. Can't tell you how many watering cans have been thrown in the air while I am ducking as the 'parents' divebomb my head! I have tons of trees suitable for nests, so I don't feel bad encouraging them to go elsewhere. I would NEVER want to hurt the birds/babies, but I also hate losing plants because I can't water them.

I'm definitely a dog fan-another one of those women that goes against the stereotype, I guess.  I do have to say, though-if you really don't likethe smell of dogs, it's going to DRIVE YOU CRAZY if you have a dog in the house.  It's very easy to say that you could get used to it or that you would put up with it for your child, but when it comes down to it, it's very hard to deal with having something around all the time when you don't really like the things that go with it.  I'm definitely not saying that you would be a bad doggie mom, but it's something to consider.

In childhood I loved cats and dogs but have since grown to loving dogs, big dogs like British Bull Terriers. A friend of mine has a Bull Mastiff but he's a big guy - he can't be seen with a Maltese dog in a doggie bag at 6'4"!!!

I prefer dogs but I have only had one good dog experience and it was a girl Chow she was the best dog. I have had 4 male dogs since and they have been a disaster. We had 2 male cats, both gone by 6 years and now we just have one girl cat. She is awesome

Well i must say that being the proud owner of both species .... i must say i am torn between the two! dogs have their own quirks and so do cats. So... needless to say i am one of those people who love to have either one in my home or one of each!

We have 2 cats.  I love dogs, but walking them in winter is a pain.
