I know what you mean.  I've done that job before myself.  You just have to get a thicker skin.  Remember this next time you're frustrated:  you're one no closer to a yes.  It's not for everyone though.  Give yourself permissin to find another job if you don't like this one.  Hang in there!

I've had to call people before and was shocked at how rude they could be. Then I had to remind myself of how I feel when the calls are reversed and I'm the one getting them...I'm ashamed to admit that I'm not so friendly! So, it's a tough call, we cannot expect different reactions from most people.

I worked as a telemarketer some years ago and it definitely was not a fun job.  Making cold calls is hell on the psyche especially when people are cussing at you.  I think I lasted for almost 2 weeks and then I was out of there.  Whenever you called its always in the middle of family dinner or something and people do not appreciate it. But I fully understood  because I hate calls like that myself which I usually just hang up on.

i've telemarketed before but i never got yelled at or cussed at. someone was firm with me but they never did yell or cuss. i stayed at the job for a while ..i was surprised to have a good night everytime i went. i did make alot of "sales". i was actually calling for donations for the shiners circus...i got alot of money!! people like the shriners coz they help kids for free.  how much i got is how much commission i got. 12% which isnt much so this is why i quit.

i have had to cold call for a job and it's a given you're gonna get yelled and cursed and hung up on. but how about when you work inbound and get people cursing at you?!!!! I worked for Lane Bryant catalog and we were required to pitch more sales at the end of the customers orders and it was ridiculous, we had to pitch make up, magazines, specials....and since the people had placed their order they were done talking and got really rude when you wouldnt let them off the phone.

also i worked for marketing research. shoot all i was doing was calling for people to take a survey and once some old guy was threatening to hunt me down and kill my family for breaking the law by calling him!

i don't like getting sales calls but i dont bother yelling and being rude i just say, hey i'm not interested and hang up. i know they are doing their job but i cant help them make their sale, sorry.

They are bothersome. I am not buying anything over the phone. Google Tom Mabe and you will see some interesting related things.

I have worked at the same call center off and on for the last 3 years. The first time I worked there I answered calls for the phone and internet company Verizon for their Internet Sales department. I'm not cut out for influencing people to buy something especially if it's for an add on package that they don't really need. I had to have surgery so I was allowed to quit with the chance for re-hire. After my surgery and a brief stint working a Dr's office I went back to the call center and have been there over a year now answering question and making reservations for the Isle of Capri casino and hotel chain. I like this job better than the Verizon one but my God people are really rude and stupid! I never in my life believed in stereotypes or judging people or anything like that until I started this job. People calling in don't realize how much crap we have to deal with on a daily basis and some talk down to us and just treat us like we are the dumbest lowlifes on the face of the planet. Others are so clueless and absent minded one starts to wonder if they have spiderwebs for brains ;). These may be inbound calls but regardless of whether or not you work inbound calls or outbound I have a theory that the customer on the other end of the line has the mindset that the representative is some punk they can talk down to. a TSR (Telephone Sale Representative for those who don't know) is not exactly the easiest job in terms of dealing with the general public because the general public simply cannot understand just how involved our jobs are. An example for me would be yeah I might just be booking rooms and answering questions but it's not one location I do it for it 14 and keeping 14 different locations across the country in line is not an easy thing to remember on top of averaging about 100=150 calls a day, and that's just me. Thank God I never had to do outbound calls, but inbound as I've stated already, are no walk in the park either. Hope it all works out for you.

A good job that pays pretty well, would be a tele marketer. You get payed for going in for work, and even more if you sell the product. You don't get calls from your workplace so youre in the clear lol

I used to be a telemarketer and I know when I got home from all day of calling people getting hanged up on more than once during the day, I didn't want to receive calls from telemarketers and even explained to them.  I used to tell em I just got home from work I am a telemarketer like you and really am not in the mood to talk to you sometimes they laughed and understood but sometimes you get a persistant one that you just have to hang up on lol

I don't get sales calls but when I did, I was as polite as I could. Until, they started being rude or not taking no for an answer, then I just hung up.

I don't like them but I know they have a job to do.  I don't mind listning to there speech and tell them no thanks but when you get one that is persitant I will hang up on them.  You don't deserve to be harassed by them.

I really don't mind them, I just say "I'm not interested thanks" and hang up.  I usually wouldn't hang up on someone but I've been in their shoes and would rather get hung up on then kept on the line when the call isn't going to amount to anything.   :dontknow:

I don't have a landline so no calls.  When I had one I looked at caller id and if I didn't know the number I didn't answer the phone.  Telemarketing is annoying.  If I want to buy something I will go to the store and buy it I don't need someone trying to sell it to me over the phone.

I worked at a call center taking inbound calls for seven years will never in life do it again.  People would call in and yell about their bill and they would yell because TM (telemarketing) would make them wild promises on what they would get if they sign up just to make sales so us in customer service had to face the brunt of their anger from being lied to by TM.  I was so glad when my center closed (famous accounting scandal).  I would not recommend working in a call center unless it was the last job on earth and you were going hungry.

If you mean telephone sales... I usually just hang up. I keep my home phone hooked up to a fax machine so they can listen to the connect signal.
