Standing "On" Line

I have been noticing when reading or watching tv, people from out west or up north (I'm in Tennessee) say "Standing On Line" instead of "Standing In Line". I really don't get it, because you are not standing ON top of a line of people, you are standing IN the midst of a line of people. I'm pretty sure everyone in the South says standing in line.
What do you say wherever you are?

If anyone has any other phrases that people say differently in other parts of the country, post them. I think it is really interesting!

hmmm..I live in the state of Washington...and I say standing IN line. 

To be honest, I don't think I have heard someone say that unless they are actually Standing "On" a line

I just read it in an F. Paul Wilson book, and have heard it several times on sitcoms like Two and a Half Men and others.

On line is a Jersey/NY thing. We don't say it in Pennsylvania. It's just an expression, and the way they speak.

For instance, I'm from NEPA, and I end my sentences with prepositions all the time (even though I know it's not proper form).

i'm from IL and i say "in line" i'v never heard ne one else say different. thats news to me.
