Chopping Onions
« on: July 01, 2010, 10:24:01 am »
Need to chop onions but want a faster way?  Quart the onions, place them in a blender and cover with water.  Process on high speed for a couple of seconds.  Drain.  Easy as 1,2,3.  They will not loose their flavor.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to try it. I always hate to chop onions but this makes it sound easy.

this is a great tip but you should also let people know that this is best done in a blender with a glass pitcher. if it is done in a plastic pitcher it will be very difficult to get the smell/taste of onion out of it and then other stuff you blend (milkshakes, etc) may be onion scented or flavored- ewww! my blender has the plastic pitcher but also has 2 the single cups so i have labeled one of the cups for the specific purpose of blending onions, garlic, etc

See, I didn't know that.  Good adding.  I have a glass blender so I didn't think about that.

thanks for the tip.  Never have tried chopping that many at once, I could see it saving time later.

Gosh that sounds really easy.  I love onions but hate messing with chopping them. And if they do not loss flavor that is perfect.

I have an easier way.  I have a chopper, where I quarter the onion, turn the chopper on and its  done in seconds without the water.  Have been doing it like that for years.

Yeah, I'm saying if you can't afford or don't want to buy a chopper.

Thanks for the tips on chopping onions.  I have manual chopper that I use.  It has a handle that I press up and down that causes the chopping blades to chop up and down as they rotate when I press the handle down.

I didn't think about plastic keeping the odor of the onion so that was an eye opener.
