I've done those same offers with no problems as far as getting charged before my free trials expired. Perhaps you didn't read the fine print, checked boxes w/out reading & signed up for things in which you did not understand or didn't un-check certain boxes.  :dontknow:

But yeah, same offers I did, no problems.

There are a couple of ways this could have happen. More than likely you didn't sign up from the page you were directed and ended up taking on a full membership after browsing the website a little. Or perhaps, you clicked boxes without fully reading and understanding the material. Many companies also have pre checked boxes that asks if you agree to trying out another company for 2 days or immediately and gives you a customer service number to call and cancel for that separate company. It's standard business practice in sales, but it's unethical and should be illegal IMO. But other than that, I wouldn't have the slightest idea of those charges. What company name showed up on your credit card statement?

i was trying to do stamps.com's free trial, it stated clearly that i would not be charged before the trial was over, so i did it ( had no money in the bank, thank god ) cuz i got an email stating that a charge was attempted but i had insufficient funds. so u r not alone

I've done stamps.com before and i think they put an authorization on your card for the membership fee but it's supposed to drop off in a few days.  I never had a problem with them.  I know first hand some of the free trial offers do that, but the charges have always stayed pending and then went away in a few days... altho while those charges are pending you can't use that money... I think that's where some of the confusion comes from.

I just remember, many companies charge either the full amount or atleast a dollar to see if the funds are there to cover it and the money goes back into the account atleast 48 hour later.

I've always found that it takes about 7 days to drop off which I wasnt expecting the stamps one to charge the $15.96 so that sucked cause I am still waiting for it to drop off!  :-

Ewww! Really? Sucks... I guess it might depend on what bank you have. I remember I treated almost my entire family to Olive Garden and they charged me 15% over on the card not to mention the 15% for gratuity. I was pissed. We're looking at a 200+ dollar bill here. I expected as much as 150 plus gratuity, but over 200 bucks? The manager told me over the phone after I had realized, that it's a refunded processing fee that's charged (an automatic 15%) to make sure the card will cover it, but I thought that was the dumbest thing I had ever heard. But I had informed her that it had been more than the 3 days she said it would take for it to come back.

Boy was my face read when 2 days later, it came back and she had given me a $100 gift card the day prior...  ::) as me if I gave it back...  ;D

I have noticed that some gas stations will add a charge if u pay at the pump with ur cc...i dont like companies playing fast and loose with my money...alot of people have ended up with overdraft fees because of it...but i guess its legal cuz it continues...

Guess im old fashioned...i dont want anybody messing with my money for extra charges i did not authorize...

Yup.  My boyfriend works at a Valero and the last time i checked if you use your card at the pump they authorize for something like 50 to 80 bucks.  It drops off and you only get charged for the gas you actually purchased but it sucks if you only have like 40 bucks in your account.  ;D

They have to authorize it that way tho, cause they can't tell how much gas your car is gonna take...

yes but in the TOS they say nothing about PREauthorization on your card, which in my opinion is BS. what if you had just enough in you bank account to cover the preauthorization but had to pay rent the next day or your car was on E, and needed gas. i think they should be REQUIRED to say the are going to put a hold on the card

I agree with you meadows...more folks have gotten screwed fooling with trials that way...its wise to always have at least one card with no less then $100...cus there are people that think a $1 trial will only be ONE dollar...but many times the company has gone ahead an put the whole charge on the card...and even tho its just a preauthorized charge...it still keeps your funds out of your reach until you contact them...
