Last time I went to church was 11 years ago.  I realized that no one practices what they preach.  Better to just believe what you want and stay home IMHO.

Wow, that's spot on what I was going to say. I stopped going around 11 years ago too, and I learned that the people that went to that church were a bunch of mindless hypocrites. During mass they would act so sweet and kind, then they'd run out the door as soon as they could, cut off the people they were just sitting next to in their suvs, honk at the grandparents walking too slowly across the parking lot, and do illegal left turns into oncoming traffic... Really, come on now. I'm glad I got out of there.

Early 2007...right before I became an atheist.  lol

I've learned that church plays an important role in maintaining a brainwashed mindset, especially if you find churches that are "fun" and you enjoy going to (like mega-churches).  The slick, young pastors at these types of churches will speak messages that appear to apply to your modern life.  Don't be fooled, though, as said pastors will conveniently ignore all of the vile stuff in the Bible, not address any questions or evidence against god, and rarely - if ever - speak of hell.  I think going to church gives the average Christian an excuse to not read their Bible, which is really a shame, because we need more people to read their Bibles in full for more people to be able to realize the bullsh*t.

I've also learned that a church service can turn into a nut session, with people crying and wailing for 45 minutes out-of-the-blue and for no goddamn reason.  This type of behavior is why I left one of my favorite services, because it transitioned from actually talking about stuff to endless cry fests and the pastor saying, "Praise Jesus!" over and over again.  "These people are f*cking crazy!" was my sentiment, and yes, I was still a believer in god when I thought that.

It's been 4 years since I went to church.  Before that I was going every Sunday, but during 2006 my favorite aunt died and then 2 months later my Mom died.  I haven't been to church since then.  Something happened inside me and that feeling I once had about going to church is gone.
