At what age did you start working?

I began working at 15, just be aware why they want money

I'm a rarity. I got my first job at 13. But my oldest son started working at about 16 and my youngest, who is 17 doesn't work. I think it helped my oldest son out. He wanted the responsiblity. Now he is a college grad with a good job! I have no problems with teens working. Just tell them to be careful and watchful. There are a lot of nuts out there.

I was 18 when I landed my first job. When I turned 18, she still wanted to run my life. I love my mom but I had to put my foot down sometime. Otherwise, she wasn't going to let me grow up and find my way. My mother was really strict about school and she was always over-protective. She really didn't want me to leave her side unless it was to go to school. You can guess my high school years really sucked. I was only allowed to sleep over at one friend's house and that's because her mother was just as strict as mine was.

I was a senior in high school, and it was through the DCT program, where you work half a day for credits and then attend school half a day.  I worked as a nurse aid at a hospital because I didn't take typing until my senior year and couldn't work as a secretary.  This was back in 1968 and 1969.

I have always worked from home. My daughters are 14 and 16 and they want to work now but I don't know if I am ok with that

I didn't start working until I was 18 but my son started when he was 16.  I know it is good for kids to start working to get some responsibility but I hated to see him go to work .... I worried about him the being so young and coming home from work around 11 pm.  I will say it really didn't do him much good hehehehe   He is 27 and is a self employed artist.  He is married and recently became a father however and is now working a temporary evening job out on the road and of course I am worried again!!!

My first job was at the age of 16.  I worked in the school office and the school Library.  It  was a lot of fun and I enjoyed the people I worked with.

I started working when I was 15 at a local restaurant as a table busser. I moved my way up and because an Ice Cream Attendant (sounds lame, i know, but i love it!) and a waitress. I still do a little bit of everything.

I have worked almost since I can remember. My first memory of work is standing up in a chair to wash dishes. I must have been about 4 or 5. I started school at 5 and it was before then. I remember pushing the plunger up and down in churn full of milk to make buttermilk. I remember using the ax to cut the head off the chicken for Sunday dinner and I cut my leg, so after that mama just had me to wring the chickens necks.
I had to carry water from the spring to the house. I had to slop the hogs and feed the chickens, get in wood and coal. In the summer, I had to help in the garden, pick black berries, wash the jars for canning and hang the freezing clothes on the line in the winter time.

However the first work that I did and got paid ($15.00 per week), I was 15 years old.
It was a live in maid/cook/child care job, Monday through Friday. I was so proud of my job and I saved all my money.

I got my first job at 17, but I only worked two days a week (it was at Abercrombie). During college, I worked part-time (3 days a week) but I took a full course load at school so I really couldn't work much more than that.
