My sister and started our own business when I was 12. We made fliers and did the following:
mowed lawns
babysitting
house cleaning
leaf raking
car washing
dog walking
sold lemonade

We also worked on the family farm for money as well as selling pecans and blueberries from the farm. We would also go on walks and pick up cans to sell. We didn't have the best home life though and made money to buy our own clothes.

My first regular paycheck for working .... I was 17.  I worked in an office answering phones, making copies, typing and mailing packages.  I was in a school to work program and was only allowed to work 20 hours a week.  I also only went to school 1/2 day.

I was 14 when I started my first job -- doing light housework and mother's helper (with new twin boys) -- lasted 2 weeks.  Lot of work, little pay.  That same summer, my older sister helped me get another houseworking job and taking care of 2 kids.  Only did this for the summer -- then back to school in September.

Did this for 4 summers -- earned enough to help me get through college -- and develop enough respect for housework and child care to know I didn't want to do that for a living, long term.

I was 16, worked as a bus-boy for my mom's restaurant which is no longer owned by my mom.    Twas a good, popular business but she got too far into debt and had to sell the place. :'(

I was around 12 years old, or younger--but I was working a few hours in my Uncle's restaurant as a waitress, on weekends.  Then, after that, I worked as a dishwasher and restaurant helper in my Mom and Dad's restaurant, until I was 18.  My first "real" job came when I was about 19 years old, and worked for a "non=family" employer--I worked in a factory assembling suitcases.  I have 3 kids.  They did not start working until around 16--but, we followed "Child Labor Laws" as to how many hours they could work, and we always told them that if their grades in school suffered, or the job got to be too demanding on them, then they would have to quit the job.  Because SCHOOL is more important than a job.

Funny that school is a means to get another job though lol!
